Ha ha ha. Maybe! The 2004 and 2007 Red Sox are playing like the Yankees used to. Maybe once the curse was broken it was reversed. The only thing is, what do you call the curse on the Yankees? The curse of 2004? The curse of George Steinbrenner? Either way, the Red Sox just might be another GREAT dynasty now. It would be something to see. And I used to be a Yankees fan!! (And will be again if the Steinbrenners ever let go.)

They are, but they are for a reason that has nothing to do with baseball. Compare who the Red Sox have brought to the team:
Dice-K who was an MVP of the World Baseball Classic. Who would you rather have-him or Carl Pavano who had a good record, but never showed a winning mentality, and had injuries, obviously, from before being bought?
Mike Lowell-who was a leader when the Marlins did what they did in the World Series. Honestly, I would rather have him at 3B than A-Rod, who was never more than Dave Winfield, and I said that for a while---He played great when he was playing for his free agency. Newsday had a wonderful article about that back in April, but he has never and continues to never be a man with the hunger to win that Manny, Reggie, Mickey, Babe, others have had.
Giambi has not been a hungry ball player in years, either.
There is a fire in the Sox-in Big Papi, Manny, in the kids like Elsbury and edroia that one used to see in Derek Jeter....
Those who say Torre should have won because of the Yankees' payrolll don't look at the team, only the payroll--Pavano, Jared Wright, Steve Karsay, Kei Igawa, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi, are on that payroll with nothing to show...Path Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain, Melky Cabrera, Shelly Duncan, Robby Cano are also on that payroll--and they are not making the money others are making, but they are making the impact.
Joe's problem with the team in the post-season was no different he faced in the beginning of the year...his pitching was paper thin. He had no bullpen besides Mariano, not with Joba showing the pressures that do fall on rookies however you work the rules, especially on Bug-out night.
The Red Sox have the tools, and they appear to be a team of destiny, like the Yankees-and I am a Yankee fan--but will they continue to be when they make the stretch run, if thye win a few World Series under their belt? There is a reason why it is so difficult to win more than 1 in a row, and onl 2 teams have won 3 in a row in the past 30 years...not only do parts break down, but (a) people get hungry to take the title away from you, and copy your recipe for success as has happened with those cluibs that are paying the players in other cities-Chicago a prime example, but, almost as important (3) complacency does set in when you do it often.
Manny was right, it was not the end of the world. But I saw it for what it proved to be, a way to say, hey let's just relax, do what we have to do, and if we don't do it we still have another year, but let's keep the pressure off so we can do what needs to be done. It is why Joe did not want a 1-year deal, and it would have been dterimental to his ballplayers...
The Yankees ned a few with the money, and all with the hunger...that is what the Red Sox have now...and why the Yankees, when there was nio pressure, did what they did. In 11 years, if Boston does the same thing, we'll know if they were, indeed, the new Yankees or just a great ball club for a few years and not a reall dynasty....Remember, this is not only the last year with Joe Torre for the Yanks, it was the first year they did not win the division and Boston did in that same time span..

There are no such things as curses. This is considered superstition. What happened is that they have capable management that wants to win and the fan support and money to do so. The org has become one of the best and that produces winning. The only thing that happened is that they reversed the culture of bad decision making such as the kind of decision making that would make one trade Babe Ruth.

Yes. Ever since the Sox beat the Yanks after being behind 3-0 the Yanks haven't got any farther than the DS. now their big manager Torre left them. The curse is getting worse. I will see the Yanks in the WS in 86 years.

Yeah...Everyone figured that Babe liked the Yankees better...The truth hurts...
Seriously, the Red Sox are just the best team in baseball with ownership and management that cares about putting a good team together and winning...

There was no curse - they just sucked for 86 years according to the shirts in Cooperstown :)
The new Yankees?? Did they win another 20 World Series when I wasn't paying attention? Or is it still 5 and they're on their way again this year? Good question but you ruined it with the last statement.....

I think Steinbrenner is trying to figure out why he can't buy everything. If you add up the combined team salary for the years they haven't won it all, and then add the rest of the league's salaries for all the teams that did win the World Series, the Yankees have still spent almost double. LOL

There was never a curse. Get over it.
But the Red Sox are the new Yankees no matter what Theo Epstein says. If you pay millions of dollars just to TALK to a player, you're Yankee-esque and not that bright.
