Almost every civilization has had some belief in a God. I can't believe that it is irrational belief. Now some of the concepts that religion puts out are certainly irrational to me but not to the people who believe. Can you prove the existence of God? Much smarter Philosophers have tried and said that they have done it. I think that it is not provable beyond no degree of faith. But they certainly have proved that it is a rational belief.

A lot of the answer to that depends on the attributes that you give to your 'diety'. I'm always suspect of any Diety that has a lot of very 'anthrocentric' demands and is 'owned and operated' by a caste of 'priests' in an 'organised religion'.
