i think it was so named due to the odors involved since Susie never douched and Sam had a phobia about taking showers

The song was originally written as 'Duck-billed Platypus Love'. The song was about 6 minutes and 30 seconds long due to all the syllables. The producers wanted the song shortened to about half that. So they reluctantly changed it to 'Muskrat Love'.
