I've been watching the Yankees since 1956 when Mickey won the triple crown. I figured out that managers can't make great players ... great players make themselves.
It won't matter who gets the Yankee job . . . it's the team you put in the ballpark that makes the difference. Good luck to the guy who accepts the position. He will need all the luck he can get.

Tony La Russa never coached for the Marlins. He coaches the Cardinals.
And he accepted a 2-year offer from the Cardinals yesterday, NOT the Yankees.

The Yankee Brass has stated they will be interviewing three candidates. Joe Girardi, who interviewed yesterday, Don Mattingly, who will interview today and Tony Pena, scheduled to interview Thursday. George Steinbrenner favors Mattingly while Cashman favors Girardi. Pena is in there to satisfy the MLB mandate of interviewing at least one minority candidate. I would love to see Girardi get the job because he has the most experience of the three. But it's not my dime.

did you hear that somewere? If there is a story about it I better check Yahoo or ESPN, since they are like the Yankees fan club. It says on Yahoo Joe Girardi & Tony Pena are two possibilities.
