As long as you say yes you are a great mate. the minute you say no you are all the bad names that can be thought up.
We owned a shop for 4 years and stupidly gave people credit. when we could no longer afford to do so we were evil.. As long as you say yes you are wonderful. Valuable lesson in that

In my country people usually say : Do you want to lose your friend? then lend them money.!!! I actually knew some ''mate '' for 10 years or so.Lend him a 20 and then a few weeks later another 20 £.Guess what ??? After I asked for it back many times with no success we do not longer speak!!!Every time this happens I walk away saying to myself never, ever again.....Until the next time,of course, and thank god that all people are not the same.

Once a woman stopped me in the street and asked if I could give her ten pence to make a phone call, as I took a handful of change out of my pocket she took the lot and went off before I could say a word, a few minutes later she passed me on her way back, smoking a cigarette which she had obviously just bought with my money, she never even gave me a second glance. Yes I had just been taken for a fool.

There is a difference between helping a mate out with a fiver and being taken the piss of. Decent people never constantly ask for money, and will give it back as soon as they have it, or a good mate will help you out in return when you are a little short.

If you let people get into the habit of letting people borrow from you then they become reliant on you that has consequences.

I would never refuse a hungry person a meal if I can afford it myself.

When I had a shop it was in a rough area a lot of alcoholics and drugs around. I never gave them a penny.. However there are one or two who had respect and understood that no meant no.. I have many times given them tea, bought them a bag of chips or similar..

In return they have kept their eye out for me..

Life is about giving and taking in one way or another those that only take are leeches.. Whether they are homeless drunks or Directors of blue chip companies.

I think its because they expect to be told "yes"....saying yes all the time can lead to problems for your self as well as the person who is getting the lended money

I stopped lending my time and money.People became anti-social,unless they wanted you for something.Friendships thinned out quickly,as i was their friend but they were not real friends to anyone..cheers
