Honestly, the folks in the ER really don't care how you injured yourself, as long as it wasn't while you were breaking a law. You may as well come clean and honest about how you did it, because they will figure out the basic mechanics of the injury when the xray comes back. They may not know what you kicked, but they will know you kicked something. That tells them you lied once already, and leaves them wonder about anything else you have told them. You certainly won't be the first to say you kicked something in anger- in fact, I've heard the lampost taking a whack of the foot several times in my career. Also been told by quite a few folks that they got their broken knuckles by slipping in the shower as well. Well, it's called a boxers fracture for a reason, and soap is not involved. So, come clean. Look sheepish, admit it was a knucklehead stunt, and get on with things. Trust me, it isn't the worst silly self inflicted injury they've heard of.

Have you ever not paid attention to where you were walking and stubbed your foot on furniture, a door, a wall, etc.? You could have been walking very quickly, which would explain the extent of your injury.
