I grew up in the 50's and 60's and never met a kid named Beaver. It was a funny show but that kind of nickname scars for life!

I never knew anyone named Beaver back then either. When Leave It To Beaver came out on TV I thought it was a really odd name to give a kid. All of the kids I knew shortened their names is all. I don't recall anyone having an odd nickname.

It was just a nickname . It seemed like all kids had back then. My brother was called "Butch". I think Beaver should have been called Teddy as a shortcut to his real name.

His real name was not Beaver...and actually he was 'THE beaver' nicknamed such because of slightly bucked teeth

He couldn't say Theodore and he had those cute little buck teeth, so he got called Beaver.
People in the forties and fifties and sixties had some cute nicknames, and some that weren't so cute . It just seemed to stop later on as the decades went by.
