My husband thinks I do it "wrong" because I start from the bottom of the tree and go up.

When you can't buy more christmas lights, then go bottom up. If you got alot, then you can go top down.

Always from the top down. If you have a lit top, you have to plug that into the female end of the string of lights, and you work your way down on the tree from there. That way, when you're done, you can plug the male end of a string of lights directly into the outlet.

Of course, top to bottom. the lights are usually designed in the same way the branch go bigger as it goes down.
