It gives the upper body a good work-out. By using the back muscles, as well as some of the arm muscles, the upper body is toned and worked - as well as increasing the capacity of the lungs, due to the "stretching" of the chest cavity.

This is assuming, of course, that the person doing the archery ios doin git "correctly" - not slumped over in a position resembling that of QuasiModo of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"...

It also helps to improve eye-hand coordination when done without the use of sights.

At the very least, it does a great deal to help reduce daily stress. Many people use Archery as form of Meditation.

And regardless of what others may "jokingly" say - using other people as a "target" (except when the "people" are merely pictures on a piece of paper - or, in the extreme need of self-defense) is NEVER condoned as a part of the Sport of Archery.
