This is a question only and is not meant as anyform of insult.
Has America ever won a war or indeed even a battle? The whole world knows that history would be very differant if America had'nt helped out but not to distract from the question, have they ever beaton anybody in a war? The answer that is almost sure to come back is "Well we beat you Brits in our war of independence" Whereas the truth is that they did'nt, The troops that threw us out were themselves British. There were very few other nationalities and it was considered then and now as a british civil war. Am I wrong? has America ever won anything in the war or battles department?
If any Americans read this then I would like to discuss the reasons as to why they entered the second world war apart from Pearl Harbour. I will be online at noon GMT. I hope to hear from someone.

The battle of Omaha beach was a bloody battle, but by the end of the day America took the beach. Also the battle of the bulge was largely an American operation with British support, and they managed to take France off Germany.
In the battle of Iwo Jima they defeated the Japanese forces and took the island.
You'll find there's heaps of examples in World War II where America has been victorious in both the European and Pacific theatres.
They almost single-handedly won the Pacific war, and won the European war with the aid of the Soviet Union and Britain.

Yes, the US did win some wars. I wouldn't consider the War of Indepence a proper war as such, since they weren't even really Americans yet at that stage, they were colonists. And the British withdrew from the war due to the cost and the British never threw their whole army against the US colonists as they did say, in the Anglo-Boer wars against the South African colonists.
The Mexican-US war was really more a war between the southern immigrants against the Mexican held land that became the southern-most states of the US.
WWI, they were allied with the UK, France, Italy, etc.
WWII though, they mostly won the Pacific war alone against Japan. I find it extremely amusing that so many Americans think that if not for their entry into war, that Hitler and Germany would have won. Have they completely forgotten the Battle of Britain and more importantly, have they forgotten about Russia? Really, the US most definately didn't save the UK or Europe single-handedly.
They lost Korea and they badly lost Vietnam.
To name Grenada is really pathetic, since they invaded a small island with a population of a few thousand that belonged to the Commonwealth.
Well, Iraq I & II. Hmm, Iraq I they did win, but didn't follow through on. Iraq II they won the war but they are busy losing the peace at a very fast rate, so I wouldn't call it a success.
I would like to know however, how well the US will really do in a big war such as WWII if they are attacked on their own homesoil such as Europe was. Where their women, children, homes, factories and infrastructure are destroyed by constant bombs, by invading soldiers, and so forth. It is far easier to fight a war when you know your homeland, your non-military population and your infrastructure is safe and sound.
Anyway, maybe I should actually put that up as question, rather than in an answer.
And I don't find your question insulting, its only the Americans who are insulted. Its an honest question, not a deliberate provocation...

You might look up the battle of New Orleans in the war of 1812. I think we won that one. We gained the western 1/3 of our nation in the Mexican American war. The Philippines , Cuba , And Puerta Rico are independent of Spain today because of the Spanish American war. You might check to see who won the battle for Iwo Jima or the battle for Guadalcanal.

Knownow't~~

I think the person asking the question means DID THE AMERICANS win ON THEIR OWN ....

now I am not really going to go into this too much .. BUT .. AS an aussie I'm kinda offended that you implied that America won the battles of the pacific alone .. There's an awful lot of aussie Merchant Seamen and RAN veterens that would resent that.

truth of the matter is .. VERY few modern day battles are won soley by ONE nation...there's support in many ways.

Jingizu~~ PLEASE .. please read some history re the Pacific Conflict .. you're forgetting the Kiwis and the Aussies .. please learn about the Kokoda trail and other AU/Kiwi involvement

You can tell they won several wars because it was in last years history books, which the winner writes. I understand that in japan the history books have relegated world war two to several paragraphs about something that is best forgotten; or may have never happened at all. In germany only one person, aka hitler, was responsible for everything that happened, and he is dead so forget about it. After years of study I have come up with a little saying; God loves stupid people, look how many he made.

You may want to review the Battle of Great Bridge, in December 1775. We decimated John Murray's troops with only one American suffering a hurt thumb. This caused Murray (you call him Lord Dunmore) to evacuate Norfolk.

I don't buy your arguement 'the troops that threw us out were themselves British.' They stopped being British once the same protections offered Brits on the island (that is an active voice in Parliamentary decisions) ceased.

A star from me for this one, it's a very interesting question and I'll be interested to see what sort of answers you get for it.

I'm not American, but I have a cousin over there who was actually taught at school that WWII didn't start until 1941!

I suppose you could count the civil war, although they were fighting amongst themselves - but at least some good actually came out of it.

I think Americans are fed far too much propaganda and are denied a decent education as a result of this - something I know many of my American friends agree with me on.

But the thing about war is, that ultimately - nobody wins.

I don't think I have to discuss anything with you that can't be said here. In what you call "wining a war" do you mean the last man standing or do you mean simply who goes home first? please explain yourself.

Yes, we did kick your butt in the revolutionary war, yes, the French helped us, never the less, you picked up your arms when the King called you home due to expenses, we still won, did we not, you left, we didn't. You weren't gaining any ground and, your forces were all but at a standstill and beaten.
Are you saying we didn't pull your chestnuts out of the fire during WW2 or have you forgotten Dunkirk when you tried it on your own? Or the great Blitzkrieg?

I would say, on the oft hand, that we have kicked butt where ever we have gone, the proof is in your corner since you made the remark, I'm calling you out to prove it.
Did you forget the South Pacific, where the British were literally wiped out by the Imperialist army, we went in and fought all the way across the Pacific, by the way, more then one British POW camp was opened by the Yanks that paved the way into Japan or, have you forgotten?

By the way, if your thinking it was the Brits that kicked you out of America because of the hereditary thing, wrong, it was the second and third generation American, we never did considered ourselves British, you did.

Had we stayed an "Isolationist" society in the 40's you would be pledging your allegience to the swasticka right now and, listening to the step of the goosestep through your streets.

The answer to that is yes the Japanese war they fought it to the end with almost no help from anybody , and they fought a man to man war , with the same level of technology as the Japanese , and in some respect the Japaneses were superior , you may say the atomic bomb won it but by that time the Japanese were a spent force and it was only a matter of time before they would have been over run . and if it had,nt been for there Bushido code they would have capitulated long before

I'm addressing your last question.

All wars are fought because of money. Entering WWII by the USA was to protect us financially. They were many moral and security issues also.
