The sick note is for two weeks (2/52) and is inclusive of the day it is signed. as it is signed on a Monday, the last day of sickness is expected to be at the end of the 14th day, which is a Sunday. Therefore, you would be expected to return to work on the Monday or get another sick note if you are still too ill to work.

Those that say you can go back sooner, if you feel well enough are wrong. The doctor "Certifies" that you are unfit for a period of time. The doctor will consider the length of time for a "FULL" recovery. If you attempt to return to work before a "Medical Certificate" (Sick Note) expires, your employer has a legal duty to refuse to allow you to work. If you do return to work and an injury gets worse or you infect your work colleagues with flu etc. you can be prosecuted for a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Acts. The HSE will prosecute for negligence and the penalty is a heavy fine, a prison sentence or both. The employer can also be prosecuted for a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Acts, under Section 5 for failing to protect the health and welfare of it's employees, any contractors on site and / or any members of the public. The employer is likely to receive a heavy fine. To top it off, if you make others ill, they can sue you for damages and loss of earnings. If your GP has said two weeks, you have to refrain from working for that two weeks. The same rule applies with medicine, if the GP says you have to take anti-biotics for 10 days and informs you to complete the course, you must do so as it can take five days for the anti-biotics to start working and stopping them at that point will only give any infection the opportunity to attack your body again. Anything your GP tells you is commonly known as "Doctors Orders" and that is what his instructions are, "orders".

Hi - most employers state you must have a final certificate that states a fit to return date.
In regards to your question I would say a tuesday as the note covers you for the monday. However you need to understand your employers perception of it. As you dont want to return on a tuesday and find that monday is unauthorised absence.

On Monday, but if you feel better, go back sooner, as you can live on the sick pay , even for two weeks.

They should go back to work when they are well again. If that exceeds the two weeks then get another sicky, otherwise don't stay off work. It's both an ethical and medical question.

One full week will end on the Sunday, and two full weeks will end the following Sunday, so it's the Monday.

If you look at the sick note, it does say that the person will be ready to return to work on a particular date.....It says something like Mr. X should refrain from work until.....and then gives a date.
