Quite a few are still pretty darn mad about Howard's contemptuous treatment of veterans with the erosion of their pensions, miserliness over defence super and carer's payments.
Those votes won't be bought - the insult and damage has been done:

Aged care and pensions are a real issue in this election. As people are living longer the need to support the Senior community is vital to the community and therefore the vote.
People are scared, and quite rightly so.
Not everyone is going to be a self-funded retiree like Howard, even though he will be more than happy to pick up a very substantial Government pension for life, no matter how much money he has, or how much he will earn as a public speaker.

Howard is practically bribing the senior citizens to vote for him by providing them increase in pensions.

Grey voters are very conservative and have been one of the backbones of the liberal vote since Menzies. The fact that the Libs feel they must bribe them shows how poorly they have treated our senior cits. I sincerely hope our senior cits remember how badly they have been treated in the past and reject the shabby, shameful attempt to buy their dignity and their vote.
