I fed my kid cereal at 6 weeks. I'd rather my kid be full than starve him to death. Go ahead and feed your baby whatever you feel is right. She will thank you for it later. By the way, my kid is now of average weight and very healthy.
Don't listen to all these other stupid people, feed your baby. I can promise you they made parental mistakes just the same.

You should stick to food which says from 4 months on the packet. If it says from 4 months on the pack it is safe for your LO to eat. You should try and wait until your LO is a bit closer to 6 months before introducing foods.
It is not a good idea to introduce sweet foods before they are eating savory because they tend to favour the sweet foods and refuse veg later on.
The best things to try at this stage are pureed veg such as sweet potato , carrot , broccoli etc. Custard and yoghurt are a bit rich for a 5 month old. I wouldn't give my LO (11 months) custard because it is too sweet but that is just my opinion.
I went down the BABY LED WEANING route with my baby when she was 6 months. They can only eat what they can pick up and chew by following this method. Maybe give it a thought instead of purees.

At 20 weeks your baby is too young to be having solids. This said now that you have started feeding your baby it would be silly to stop.
A baby should not have ANY wheat products for at least nine months. You should be giving potato, sweet potato, carrot, stewed apple or stewed pear with NO added salt or sugar. Pumpkin is also a healthy and fairly sweet vegetable to give. Milk should be the main food. You are only giving tastes of foods to get the baby used to varying textures.
There is no reason to be giving jars if you are still at home. Make batches of food and freeze in ice cube trays so there is always something available for the baby.
I would advise you to speak to your Health Visitor or get leaflets/weaning books from your library to give you more ideas. A baby should be fed mainly savoury foods at the beginning.

Hi Sweetie,
Lets see. 20 weeks will be a 5 month old, yes? Introducing cereal (single grain only) should be ok at this stage. If you are looking to introduce other foods I (and the pediatric community) recommend one new food at a time to monitor for allergy concerns. Single fruits and veggies are best... meats later. Start with mild fruits choices such as apples, pears, and work up to more complex flavors. I HIGHLY recommend staying away from the foods you mentioned. These foods have multiple ingredients and contain unnecessary sugar and fillers. You might as well feed the little one a twinkie! Check with your pediatrician if you are still unsure. Love and luck--MissDelanne

Some people over react about cereal. I was told by the pediatrician to give my 2 month old cereal because she had reflux. If there was no cereal in her formula then she would spit up most of what she ate. I was told to give her rice cereal. As long as you have started slowly with the baby food to make sure there are no allergies it should be alright.Make sure you have started with veggies first and then fruits. Just make sure you wait a week in between new foods. My mother in law was giving my babies mashed potatoes with gravy before 20 weeks old. Relax people.

If you want an obese child on your hands, then go right ahead. Cereal at 6 weeks??? What were you thinking of? You should keep wheat out of a baby's diet until they are at least 6 months old.
Milk - breastmilk or formula - should remain a baby's MAIN source of nutrition until they are 12 months old.

Your daughter should be on "step 2" baby food. Its it says step two on the outside of the jar, she can have it. This also goes for the mixed cereal w/ wheat.

I would not, her digestive system is too immature to cope with all this food, better stick to milk. She is far more likely to have allergies if you introduce milk products now. I would not give her any wheat products yet either. Be patient if you can.
