Personal effects and pasalubong that is not in commercial quantity are not taxed. Better yet, open the boxes and have some kids use it so that it will clearly be "used".

If you have only one electronic toy for your grandkids, you will not be taxed. Of course this depends on the mood of the customs examiner. The best thing to do is to prepare a pasalubong for the examiner too just to be on the safe side. Remember this is the Philippines and this is how the system works.

Just remove the price tags and if the customs ask if you have something to declare tell them that you have nothing to declare. Of course, if you're bringing in more than 1 they will suspect that you might sell it for profit so normally they will tax you. I think the customs problems in the Phils are exaggerated by a lot of people. I go home every year and never seemed to have that problem. It's really up to you if you'll give in to them. Whenever they ask for money I just tell them I don't have any. And if they threaten to open all my baggages I always tell them, go ahead be my guest.

You can place the electronics and other gifts (pasalubong) in a balikbayan box and send it ahead of time. That way, you will be spared the inconveniece of being taxed.

Please do not bribe the staff. Doing so will only perpetuate the behavior.

you can tell the customs examiner that the PS2 is for personal use. maybe you can put in your luggage that is very well hidden, so they won't see.
