One reason we get urinary tract infections is because of not drinking enough water to keep hydrated. We as women are also prone to having urinary tract infections because our urethras (the section that the urine comes from out of the body) are quite a bit shorter than a man's.
It is possible to have more than one kind of infection going on. I've had this happen to me before.
I would recommend getting another opinion and preferably from someone that does not share the same office of the doctor that you currently use.

A urinary tract infection can be caused by multiple things. The female urethra is very short. Always remember to wipe front to back. One of the main culprits in uti's is ecoli. Ecoli is in the intestinal tract and is transferred when people aren't careful with wiping. Avoid tight fitting clothing and always wear cotton crotched underwear. Taking too many baths can give one UTI's as well. The symptoms you are describing sound like yeast but another symptom that you make no mention to is whether you are having a whitish discharge. Yeast infections are often itching and white discharge is apparent. The burning you feel could be from a uti or it could be the acidic nature of the urine against your chaffed skin (from itching). When you go to the Gyn whomever is performing the exam should have enough education to give you correct info. Next time you schedule a yearly make sure you request to see the gyn instead of the nurse practioner.
Uti's normally do not cause intense itching. The lady that examined you should be able to tell you if you definitely had a uti because they can test the urine for blood, leukocytes, and white blood cells. Uti's are characterized with painful, frequent urination. If the kidneys are involved you could also have a high temperature and back pain. She should have been able to come to a more definitive conclusion. You can get over the counter medication for yeast infections but please go back to the gyno because you don't want to treat something you don't have and miss a different condition that may need to be treated.

There is nothing wrong with a dose of antibiotics - it's really better than the alternative of nothing at all. Herbs may help prevent a future UTI - as will a no-dry diet - but they will not cure an existing infection. There are two kinds of bacteria in the world. The common ones repond very well to the ordinary antibiotics like Clavamox. Other though need different antibiotics, depending on what they are. The best thing to do is have the vet run a urine culture, actually 'grow it out' and then prescribe the antibiotic that will kill that particular bacteria. I've had two cases of UTI's in cats (one of my own, one foster) where the bacteria was a particulary nasty one, which would only repsond to an antibitic that wasn't normally considered (marbofloxin). That is step 1. If that doesn't do the trick, then further testing with x-rays or ultrasounds for things like kidney stones need to be considered. Just like with humans, there is no magic to determing the cause of an infection. If the common treatment fails to work, then that means further testing is necessary.

I think you are correct and it is a yeast infection which can cause burning when you pee and also itching.
For the itch, try any over-the-counter vaginal cream to treat yeast infections.
I like Monistat 1day combination package.
It has a small tube of cream for external itch as well as a pre-filled tube for internal application.
It might burn a bit, but that's normal and worth it.
There are others like 3-day or 7-day treatment. Take your pick.
Urinary tract infection aka Cystitis....caused by bacteria which gets into the urethra, travels up and grows in your bladder. This results in an infection / inflamation of the bladder.
The bacteria is found on your skin and in your bowels.
Be careful that you wipe from front to back.
Back to front pulls bacteria from your anus into your vagina.
Quick and cheap cure:
Drink a glass full of water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) mixed in.
It tastes terrible but it is worth it, so I try to drink it really quickly..lol
Repeat this process if you do not get relief after a few hours. Also drink lots of water and cranberry juice to help prevent future infections.
Failing this, go to a real gyn.
Do not be embarrassed, it happens to millions of women all over the world.

Getting a urinary track infection has very little to nothing to do with cleanliness. Alot of times they are caused by having sex and not going pee before and after. I dont know why but it happens to alot of girls for that reason so its very important to go pee before and after sex. other causes could be holding your pee in to long or coming in contact to bacteria from your behind when you are wiping. If it burns and you feel like you have to go pee often it probably is a UTI, antibiotics and lots of cranberry juice will help it go away. As for the itching it sounds very much like you have a mild yeast infection. A UTI doesnt itch. you can go to the drugstore and get something for it but if its getting worse head to a gyno and they will most likely give you an antibiotic to take. Makesure you take care of it or it can turn into a worse infection which can have long term effects.
hope this helps.

some times actually being too clean, down there can cause a bacteria infection. it has to have a ph level, & soap is a bad no-no to us around or on the uretha. it can get in there & lead to an infection. so it's not you.
& if she didnt do a slide for yeast, & you may have some drainage, white, you still may have a yeast inf. & if you stay on antibiodics, you 'll probably get a yeast inf. if you dont already have one.
not to fear. they have many over the counter meds, for it. Monistat, & the generic Miconazole, is one of the most common ones. Gyne-Lotrimin-or Clotrominazole, is the 2nd. there are many brands (store brands ) of these same ingrediants. & try putting some on the outside too,if youre really itching badly.

You can get UTIs from not peeing straight after sex (the urine is sterile and cleans away the bacteria preventing it from building up).
They are generally not itchy but are VERY sore and uncomfortable.
I would recommend a second opinion if you aren't completely convinced you have a UTI.
