Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 – April 18, 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist. He is best known for his theory of relativity and specifically mass-energy equivalence, E = mc2. Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect."

The dope said "Eisntein"!
You're all assuming he means Einstein, but he could mean Eisenstein, which is a completely another kettle of fish.

A german scientist. He left school and worked as an office clerk while writing his most famous works, the theory of general and special relativity. His ideas are popularized though often misunderstood. His basic idea e=mc2... which means that the energy contained in any mass is equal to the mass of the object times the speed of light squared. This paved the way for nuclear fission and fusion, which is the releasing of the potential energy in mass.
He also revolutioned physics by annoucing that gravity, as understood by most people, does not exist. Objects do not fall toward other objects, as we imagine an apple falling toward the earth. The mass of large objects actually causes a curvature or depression in space-time, and pulls objects toward it. He also said that light had mass, and could be bent as well. That was proved with the famous Michelson-Morely experiment, which proved that the light emanating from a star was actually warped as it traveled through space.
His greatest works were completed by 1910. Later in life, he argued against quantum mechanics and sought in vain for a "unified theory" which would combine gravity and electricity. He was a coddled and somewhat foolish old man, who lent himself to many questionable social causes.
Politically, his greatest act was writing the letter to Franklin Roosevelt which conviced him that nuclear bombs were possible, and that the US needed to move ahead with research into nuclear weapons because Germany was already moving in that direction.

Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 - April 18, 1955) was a theoretical physicist, with considerable applied mathematical abilities, who is widely regarded as the most important scientist of the 20th century. He proposed the theory of relativity and also made major contributions to the development of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics and cosmology. He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect and "for his services to Theoretical Physics".
In popular culture, Einstein has become synonymous with someone of very high intelligence. His face is also one of the most recognizable the world-over. In 1999 Einstein was named "Person of the Century" by Time Magazine.
In his honor, a unit used in photochemistry, the einstein, as well as the chemical element Einsteinium were named after him.
