My husband and I cleaned most of it up using an ice cube, knife, warm iron and paper towel, althought the texture of the rug is rougher than before and there is still dye residue (it was a soy based candle) and i ran our carpet shampooer over it with a little carpet cleaning solution....does anyone have any other suggestions (other than a new rug-its not even a year old) or possible home cleaning tricks/solutions you think might be helpful removing the dye and "softening" the rug back (or even close id be greatful) to its original state? Thank You in advance!!

brown paper bag and an iron...just put the iron on the bag at a 2 setting and gently let it warm up and peel the bag away it works...may take up to 10 minutes but it will get it off...and if dye is left a carpet cleaner or spot cleaner should finish it up

Hi
There is two ways to remove wax from carpet.
1/ Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can .Use a dry clean white terrycloth place it over the wax spot then heat it with a iron on low setting because most homes have polyester carpet, and if the iron gets too hot, it'll melt the carpet. Keep checking the spot every ten seconds or so, moving the terrycloth so that a clean spot is on the carpet.
2/ Which is the better way. Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can Heat up a full kettle of water and pour it slowly on the carpet at the same time with a wet vac vacuum up the water. Keep on doing this until the wax is removed.

I would NOT apply any kind of heat to it or the wax will melt and spread deeper into the rug! Freeze the wax with an ice cube or ice pack. You can also use a commercial product that is designed to freeze wax on carpeting or upholstery. Once the wax is frozen, use a clean, blunt object to shatter the wax. Immediately pick up or vacuum the pieces of wax from the area. If you wait too long and the pieces soften, then you will need to refreeze them.

the only way that has ever worked for me to remove candle wax from carpetis to put a damp towel over it and use a iron, as the towel dies, and the wax melts, the towel will wick the residue up, a paper towel just doesn't do the job
