A dachshund (make sure you don't call them dash hounds) is a small brred of dog originally from germany. They were originally bred to hunt badgers, They can be used to hunt rabbits also. They were small enough to go down in the burrows and root out their prey.
Thye are great companions and very loyal to their families.
They love everyone who is part of their "pack" They like children but kids can be hard on dogs and since they can have spinal problems children have to be taught not to pick them up or to be rough with them.
They come in 3 coat types-short haired, long haired and wired hair. Most people think of them as the black and tan dogs but they do come in avariety of colors.
if you get a dapple one you have to be careful not to let 2 dapples breed, this can result in what is called the "lethal white factor". Double dapples as they are called can be blind, deaf or both. They usually have white areas on them along with their dappled color. If the white is over the eye(s)
or ear(s) they will be blind or deaf. Sometimes the puppies can be born without eyes or ears.
I have one who is deaf and blind on one side becasue of this.
There are lots of websites about Dachshunds, check them out, they are great little dogs.
Also lots of videos on You Tube.
I have 7 of the little hot dogs and I love them.

A Daschund has the nick name of Weiner dog or Hot Dog. They have long bodies and ears with short legs. I dont have any because of the problems they have with their spine. I like my hearty dogs that dont have many if any known hereditary problems.

A Daschund is a German breed of Dog. It was bred to go down Badger holes to root them out.
They are extremely affectionate and good with kids. They are also fiercely protective of their owners and kids.

A dachshund is in a hot dog, they were originally bred to chase the badgers down the holes and kill them so they are pretty tough little dogs. They grow very attached to their owners and want to be on your lap in your bed in your life. I have five and I would not trade them for anything. Have a great time.

It's a weiner dog/ankle biter. Short, stubby legs and a long body...about the size of a cat, maybe a bit bigger...they can be yappy and I heard they don't like children.

I have three at the moment, have had as many as four all at one time.
All shorthairs.
A black/tan, a red and one WHITE .
Each and every one has come from a "rescue" group.
They are all just as sweet and fun as anything.
This is the group where we got ours:

Here's the National Rescue:

It's a "wiener dog". (I hate that name.) I don't have one but I know they're really sweet and there are two different sizes - regular and miniature.
I would copy and paste the AKC description of them here, but I don't think I'm supposed to...
So go here http://www.akc.org/breeds/dachshund/ that's probably the best description of them.

a short, long skinny dog...usually brown and black, or "red" with black markings, but there is a variety called dapple My in-laws have the sweetest one in the world! On the other hand, my ex sister-in-law has them and they are yappy and they nip! I guess they are like all dogs. It depends on who raises them.
PS...they usually don't stay skinny LOL

Dachs means badger and hund means hound in German.
There are standards and minis and come in smooth, long and wire coats.
I have a smooth mini. Like someone else said..they are stubborn and definitly have selective hearing! (at least mine does!)
She's cute tho.
