I am 22 weeks 5 days pregnant today, ever since i got pregnant and the morning sickness went away i tend to eat alot but it is healthy foods. I am still putting on weight!
i am about 5'4 and i was 72.5 kg when i first got pregnant now i am about 78.5 kg maybe a little more.

I know you need to put on weight during pregnancy but i dont want to put on anymore unless it is the baby's weight. I do eat a fair bit but thats cause im always hungry and it's only ever healthy foods. I try to walk at night but i am always so tired of a night time cause i work all day!! And i am getting really bad stretch marks from the extra weight i am putting on.

Do you think it would harm the baby if i just cut down how much i eat? I just get a little worried cause i never had a big appetite before i got pregnant and now i am always hungry, the doc did say he is a big baby. So i am scared to cut down on the food if it means my son will suffer!

I wouldn't restrict what your eating. As long as you are eating sensible food like lots of fruit, vegis, protein rich foods, wholegrain bread and cereal, it will be easier to lose any excess weight after the baby is born. Now is not the time to diet.

If you arn't eating enough your baby will nutrients from you which can lead to other problems.

I put on 30kg each time I was pregnant, (I was 50kg before I got pregnant each time and ended up at 80kg.) I drank alot of water and was sensible about what I ate. But I just kept stacking on the kgs! I was one of the lucky ones and lost all of it as I carried alot of fluid. I think breastfeeding helped me lose the weight too.

You don't have to eat for two but you still have to make sure you are getting enough calories to make a healthy baby and keep yourself healthy too.

Good Luck!

I am not quite sure if cutting down food will harm the baby, but probably it is not the best idea. I am not sure what you are eating, but my mum always says, when you are pregnant, never stay hungry, always eat a lot of fruit, vegetables and fish. All these things wont make you put on weight. If this is all you eat heaps of, the extra weight is only the fluid in your tummy and the baby's weight. Definitely don't cut down on eating, and don't be shy around your husband. It is normal to gain weight while your pregnant...just make sure you don't eat fat food and junk...if you really want some sweet, eat a little bit of dark chocolate, and exercise. About the strech marks, make sure you use a good quality body lotion and use it twice a day, don't let your skin to dry out, this will cause strech marks as the tummy grows. Good luck and CONGRATS! Enjoy this time, don't be worried. :)

First of all, you need to look at what you are eating, now exactly how much. Like, are you eating a lot of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lots of water and milk, and juice. Doctors cannot really predict the weight of a baby, only estimate and can be off by a pound (not sure how much that is in kg). I found that my diet did change in pregnancy, and I tried to change it for the better, like cutting out sodas, sugary foods and salty foods. I would always carry about a large bottle of water, drink milk with my meals.

My doctor actually had me right down my meals, to make sure I was eating a well balanced diet, and that helped me to moniter that I was eating well. To help curb your appetite choose something healthy with proteins, like a boiled egg, a couple pieces of cheese, some yogurt.

You will gain more than just baby weight. There is the weight of the amniotic fluid, the weight of the placenta, the weight of the uterus and the extra fat your body stores. Stretch marks are not always an indicator of poor eating habits/weight gain, they are usually hereditary and you have to try and look at it as what is on the inside that counts. They usually do fade after pregnancy.

Try to remember that you can eat healthy foods instead of junk to improve the appetite. 3-5 fruits, 5-7 veggies, 6-11 grains, 2-3 dairy, 2-3 meats. I found that a piece of whole grain toast with some peanut butter worked for in-between, with natural protein in the peanut butter and fiber and whole grains in the bread. Good luck, and am proud that you choosing healthy foods instead of just junk...

Edit: Don't cover up your body because of being self conscious, be proud that you have a whole new life growing and thriving inside of you :-). You are providing the best environment you can for the little one.

Don't worry they say you put on between 9 and 14 kilo's during pregnancy and most of what you have put on would be associated with baby weight (baby, fluids, blood, placenta etc) If you cut down on what you eat the baby will still grow but it is your body that will suffer because the baby will take anything it needs from you to keep growing. One of my cousins has a wife who is suffering with anorexia and is pregnant the baby is fine, they are trying to get her to eat but because she is not use to it, it keeps coming back up. The Dr says that the baby goes into survival mode and takes all of its nutrients it needs from the mother. She now needs to have bone density test and a whole heap of other tests because of this. You are eating healthy and I am sure you will lose any weight you will put on after the baby is born, please don't cut down on your food your body needs it that is why it seems that you are eating so much more because your body is doing so much more work. Good luck : - )

It is natural for you to be concerned about weight gain during pregnancy but I don't think you really have anything to worry about. Its not as if your stuffing yourself with junk food. You are eating healthy and that is the best you can do. Just worry about taking care of yourself and your baby and everything will be fine. It is important that you listen to the cues your body is giving to you. If you feel hungry than you should eat. As long as you arent eating because of boredom or emotions than you should be ok. Besides when you have your baby if you decide to breastfeeding him you should know this will actually help you to lose the weight a lot quicker than if you decided not to breastfeed. If you are really concerned about it you can call your midwife and ask any questions you have. That is what they are there for. I hope my answer helps. Good Luck and God Bless.

Relax, gaining weight is part of pregnancy. (How many pounds did you gain? I'm in California.) If you are eating healthy foods and still gaining weight then it must be baby weight. If you are worried then eat more celery, broccoli, carrots, lettuce, etc., that will fill you up but won't add calories. Be proud of your body, not all women are blessed enough to be able to get pregnant. You can cut back a tiny bit on certain things you eat - your son will get all the nutrients he needs. If you cut back too much only you will suffer, not him. Congrats!

If you are eating healthy and balanced foods then you should be fine. You need to continue to eat..especially when you feel hungry. I'm currently 34 weeks and I used to eat alot at the beg. of my pregnancy and as my belly has gotten bigger and baby too my appetite has shrunk. During your third trimester is when the baby starts putting on the pounds and such and you should not be alarmed at gaining weight at this time. You also have to remember how much the placenta, amniotic fluid, baby, water retention and more weigh...and then you will see that you yourself are not gaining much. I eat healthy and also tons of unhealthy snacks and I've only gained 12lbs. so far. Doc told me to add a milkshake everyday to my diet but it hasn't helped any.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time. The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life. Get started today!

being self conscious about your body during pregnancy is normal for some women. as for putting on weight i wouldn't worry about it you've only gained 13 pounds, you're supposed to gain 25-30 pounds, depending on you're body. i wouldn't cut back on eating, just keep eating healthy. try six small meals instead of big meals. that might make you feel better. try exercising before work or at lunch after you eat something. ask your doctor I'm sure your weight is normal.

It is not just you gaining weight, it is also fluids. you should eat when you are hungry, and go with your cravings, they are your body telling you that you are lacking something. 6 kg in your first half of pregnancy is not bad at all. I think that as long as you are eating healthy and not going hungry, you and baby would do fine.
