tricks to maybe make sure win with a low bid?

Um... no one's gonna stop you from sniping... (except by countersniping) I'm sure it's possible to download programs to set up sniping (actually, I know there are and I've witnessed people use them, and they're not illegal, but I think they might cost money themselves and they can bid you into some sticky situations themselves)

I would not really say cheat. You just watch it until it gets to about the last 5 minutes and put in a proxy bid.

I don't know how to cheat but I hate the people who start bidding high at the beginning of the auction.

bid at the last minute and not whenever someones higher than you that way prices remain lower although of course it also probably means that there will be a last minute battle

You could use buy it now, or you could steal it or kill them after the y put ou in their will,
