I was diagnosed with chronic (incurable and genetic) depression when I was 10.
If you feel like you cannot cope on your own, set up an appointment with your doctor *immediately* to discuss treatment (if you were diagnosed, they should have done that, if they haven't that is incredibly irresponsible on their part). Selling the pills isn't an issue, a doctor can discuss your options with you and your parents, and give you a medication that might or might not work (you will need to stay on it for a while before you start noticing results, it takes a while for the chemicals to "kick in").
But pills don't work for everyone. For some people, working out and eating well is a good way to mange depression. Or finding something you're passionate about (an instrument, a sport, horses, you get the idea).
How you treat your depression is completely up to you, your family, and your doctor. Try whatever feels most natural for you.
I would also suggest looking into therapy. I know that a lot of people think it's odd, but it is a great way to sort out your feelings and issues while waiting for your medication to start working.
Take care, and best of luck.

Where do you live? A psychiatrist should be able to give you antidepressants, when I was a teenager me and half my friends were on them.
Give them a try if you want but I found they made me completely numb emotionally, they definitely didn't make me happy or help me get better.
I think when you have that general kind of depression where you feel like shlt for no particular reason the thing that helps most is overloading your brain with the happy chemicals. It seems to help your brain start balancing itself out. Try really physical adrenaline-pumping sports like boxing, rockclimbing, rugby. Do super-fun things like spending the whole day at an amusement park or the beach, go skydiving, check out your city- where I live there's a shop where you can get lollies custom made for you, a place where you can ride camels along the beach, you can design a teddy bear and have it made right in front of you. Try peaceful things like snorkelling, meditation, camping or yoga. Try creative imaginative things, read books, watch movies, write books make movies, make your own comic books, decorate your bedroom, learn sewing or carpentry or photography or cooking or anything that appeals to you. Do the things that you loved as a kid. Do the things you've always wanted to do.
Depression puts a cloud over everything you do. If you find the things that can break through the cloud and EXHILARATE you even for a little while it helps so much. Find a support group or therapist to help motivate you and give you support. Take care of your health. Avoid drugs and alcohol, they make it worse. Good luck with everything and I hope you get better soon.

There are two kinds of depression. There is the depression people feel when they fail a test, when the weather is lousy, when you get caught doing something wrong and get punished, when you break up with a boyfriend, or when someone you love dies. These are all normal depressing experiences and one feels depressed. Sometimes these depressions last a long time.
But there is also depression that is called clinical depression. It isn't really caused by something you feel sad about - it is caused by a dysfunction in how your body sends messages to your brain. Sometimes you have clinical depression but it is mild- and then something terrible happens and it gets much worse. This kind of depression usually doesn't go away by itself. Your brain chemistry needs some adjustment. Your brain might always need some help or you might just need it for a little while.
Depressed teens can get medication for their clinical depression. It is really important you talk to your parents about the way you feel. You might need to get a second opinion from another doctor.

Anti depressants can be very dangerous if given to teenagers and adolesents, unfortunately the companies who develop these medications dont take into consideration the immature chemistry and hormone makeup of the adolescent.
For this reason certain medication meant to control ADD and other behavior problem is different for children then it is for post pubescent teenagers and adults.
Far too many teenagers and adolescents commited suicide while on anti depressant medication before they realized it was dangerous and counter indicated in adoloscent depression.
I'm sorry, but what you need is a good counselor that can help you work through your depression.

Depression "pills" [antidepressants] can be obtained by minors.
If a doctor has diagnosed you with D, then it doesn't necessarily mean that treatment in your [or other] cases needs or begins with medical management.
Counseling a.k.a. "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" may be what's indicated and effective for you.
Check further and/or get a second opinion.
Clinical depression has many subsets and isn't just a name of a condition in the same manner as [a] Cold.
TV commercials don't have enough time to be a "true" indicator of the entire realm of treatment.

If you are really depressed and a medical doctor diagnosed you with this illness and that same medical doctor felt like you needed medication to help with your depression he/she would have prescribed it. They make many wonderful and effective medications for adolecents, pre teens and teens. If in fact you have seen the doctor and they have not prescribed you anything then you need to investigate natural ways to relieve your symptoms. Some of these are getting out in nature, helping another person out, cutting down your refined sugar intake, not drinking caffiene drinks, making a list of positive things about yourself, making a gratitude list, listening to music, taking up a new hobby, becoming interested in a youth group at church, trying to look for the good things in life and not concentrating on the bad or what you dont have that you want in your life, get physical - run - walk -dance really do anything that will get your body moving and your endorphoins pumping, you can try st johns wart or fish oil - see your pharmacist for correct dosages ect... I have suffered from depression for 25 years and have been on all kinds of medications and the best things I have ever done for myself is the things I listed above for you. These are the things that help me beat my depression. The medication can only do so much and many times its hard for the doctor to know what will work for you. If you are taking positve steps and taking responsibility for how you feel then you can make great strides even if you are not on medications. Depression can be a brain dysfunction however it often stems from not being able to cope with daily life. If you are going to begin to beat depression you have to learn how to cope. Therapy might be a good choice for you but if you cant afford therapy then try to find a support group for depression - yes they exsist. Good Luck and if you ever need to talk my you can contact me via email which is available on my answers profile. Dont isolate and get started you will feel better.

Hi baby,
I was diagnosed with depression a while ago and the doctor put me on medication and I had to go to a therapist. I tried to get off the meds myself, while I was going to therapy and I got all messed up. Had physical manifestations of all the stressful situations I had endured. I was abandoned by both parents, abused, left with no paperwork, etc... So, my neck and back stiffened and I couldn't speak, couldn't say a word. Needless to say, I got back on the meds.
If your doctor said you're clinically depressed, they usually give you meds and make you go to therapy. Otherwise, go to another doctor until you are satisfied with the outcome. It's obvious you need help and you want help.
Good luck.

I feel depressed all the time. You don't need pills to get over it though. You have to find what in life makes you happy. It might be hard but you can do this. Just keep your head up!! Things will get better eventually!

THE DOCTORS CAN GIVE U SOMETHING FOR IT. FOR THE PEOPLE WHO SAY JUST LOOK AT THE POSITIVE'S IN YOUR LIFE DONT UNDERSTAND DEPRESSION. ITS NOT THAT U R DEPRESSED BECAUSE THINGS ARE GOING BAD(AND U CAN JUST FIX IT). DEPRESSION IS LIKE A CHEMICAL UNBALANCE. SMILING AND THINKING HAPPY THOUGHTS DONT HELP. IF IT DOES HELP THATS BECAUSE THAT PERSON WASN'T DEPRESSED THEY WERE STRESSED AND ALOT OF PEOPLE CONFUSE THE 2. IF THEY WONT PRESCRIBE U ANYTHING. LOOK ONLINE AND TYPE IN HOME REMEDIES FOR DEPRESSION OR VITAMINS FOR DEPRESSION. I HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR U, AND U ARE NOT ALONE THERE ARE MILLIONS WHO FEEL JUST LIKE U. I WOULD LOOK INTO JOINING A SUPPORT GROUP FOR TEENS WITH DEPRESSION(ONLINE/OR IN YOUR HOMETOWN)
