I guess the big question is famous to whom?
There are many famous in Japan - Eiji Sawamura (the Japanese Cy Young), Shigeo Nagashima (one of Japan's greatest players and greatest managers), Isao Harimoto (the only Japanese player to get 3,000 hits), Wally Yonamine, Tetsaharu Kawakami (known as the God of Batting) - to Americans, probably Sdaharu Oh, Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, and Dice-K.

Google any of these names and you'll get plenty of info.
