We really dont consider there to be a north and south hayward. Most of hayward is relative to two streets which run roughly north to south, namely hesperian, and mission. Hayward is bordered on the north by San Leandro, and on the South by Union City. The Center dividing line would be Jackson Street.
Despite what others have said on here, the 238 freeway is at the north end of hayward. Anything north of there is considered by most to be San Leandro.

Everything north of Union city is south Hayward, San Lorenzo/Casto Valley boarder would be north Hayward.
