Depending on what amount you have installed, and what OS, you are running will determine if it is possible. With Vista you can use a pen drive to increase the memory. If you go into msconfig and clean all the startup programs that are not needed, you can also clean a lot of space. You will probably need 768M minimum to run what all is needed and also enough free space.

If you hold down the windows key and press 'pause', system properties will open, displaying how much RAM the system has, if you do not have a video card it will take the amount of RAM down to share for the video.

You could also find out from the BIOS setup by pressing F2, F11 or DEL on system startup. (BIOS setup button is different on some machines)

right click on "my computer" icon, select properties, it'll show you the amount of RAM your computer has near the bottom of that window. You can upgrade but you do have to open the case (PC not CPU - CPU is a chip). It's pretty easy if you're good at following directions but if you're not comfortable opening up a PC you might want to have a pro do it.

you can click on the start button, click on accessories, and then clean up the disk first, then click on defragment and it will tell you how much memory you have at the top of the screen. There may be easier ways to do this but by doing it this way you can also defragment at the same time and perhaps gain a little memory at the same time.

"physical memory is a term used to describe the total amount of memory installed in the computer. For example, if the computer has two 256MB memory modules installed, it has a total of 512 of physical memory." - computer hope.com

you can also go to www.crucial.com (a top memory retailer) and they will scan your computer for free and tell you your best options for upgrade (if an upgrade is possible or even needed)

On Windows XP, go to contol panel, performance and maintainence, click basic information about your computer, click advanced, click performance, click settings, and then advanced again.

To add RAM, you'll have to open your computer. No getting around it.
