I am seriously thinking about it. I am thinking about using it as a first draft and then working it more on the second draft. Anybody else here planning on writing one? If you are contact me - we should keep count of words here.

They're, Their, There - Three Different Words.

Careful or you may wind up in my next novel.

Me, me, me! I just finished a basic outline, and am now procrastinating. I will start writing pretty soon, though. Maybe today, even.

I hate to say it, but I don't know an easy way to keep a word count. I use Word, but it's a Japanese operating system.

Good luck with it. You can e-mail me if you like.

Edited: (-: I didn't realize it was a specific thing with RULES!! I heard about this through writing friends, and just thought it was a promise to one's self. I might check it out, but part of the reason I like to write is because I make up all the rules myself (-:.

I'm planning to do it though whether I manage to find the time to write 50000 words I have yet to discover! It's do-able as long as I write almost every day & don't get behind otherwise with my fairly busy life schedule I'll probably never catch up.

This will be my first time with NaNoWriMo. I didn't know about it until it was too late last year. A work colleague introduced me to it near to the end of Nov 2006 & I vowed to do it next time. I've always written. For most of my life I've written copious amounts but usually as journal orientated explorations into my ideas & inner experiences. I need to coax that tendency for journal writing into novel format. I have lots of ideas & they flow well onto paper. I want to harness that creativity in this different form. Among other things this year's NaNoWriMo is, for me, a is a journey into myself & a discovery of my skills.

I've written a few basic ideas, very rough plot, initial stab at a title, chapter headings, and so on. With these things as a guide I intend to just write spontaneously & see what emerges. I've done some spontaneous writing before (though not anywhere near this length on a single "novel") and I find that the result is surprisingly coherent. It seems that a story emerges apparently formed subconsciously as I'm flowing.

I am intrigued about what will emerge, and I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into it!

Glad I found your question. I have been so busy at work I have neglected my writing. I am a prosecutor for the govt. My pln this year was to finally write a novel (fiction) involving the corrupt politics in La. I think I will write a NaNoWriMo, but I don't want to use my material for my novel. Do I have this right:????? I can use the 50,000 words from my NaMoWriMo add to them to complete a novel? If so I am on it. Great question, it really sparked my creative juices and go me excited about writing again. I needed a jump start

I'm still undecided, largely because November has several commitment penciled in already, including two brief trips. (I take along stuff for writing, but I never seem to touch it when we're away.)

I'm also thinking that I really should have more of a plan for what I'm writing in place than I have now. Is there time for a decent outline or synopsis before November 1st? I don't know. What I do know is I have a decent beginning and a pretty good ending, and a vast, gaping middle which must somehow join them.

What I might do is to join in unofficially, aim for its goals without registering.

And, of course, cheer on all participants.

I have been NaNoWriMo-ing for the past 3 years, if not in action, then in spirit. I can't wait for November.

I've been thinking of story ideas for the past year, doing some 'life' research for characters, going to coffee shops, stores, bars, ball games etc with my notebook and snagging bits of conversations for speech patterns, talking to people I absolutely disagree with in order to gain perspective, etc.

I think I'm ready, I just have to choose which story I'm going to write. I'll be keeping my number count on NaNoWriMo.org under 'bettynoplot'.

As for your idea to write a second draft, NaNoWriMo is geared for original pieces, and specifically asks that no previous works be used. NaNoWriMo encourages stream of consciousness writing, creation on the spur of the moment and letting your imagination go wild. I love it because I get ideas out of my head that I would normally prevent myself from putting down on paper (or screen).

It discourages overthinking, and encourages...well... not thinking, lol. If you haven't gotten it yet, Chris Baty (creator of NaNoWriMo) wrote a book called 'No Plot? No Problem!" that is basically a guide through NaNoWriMo, starting a couple of weeks before the event starts.

I'm glad to see other people get involved, it's a great idea that's becoming more widespread every year.

I can't wait to hear about your progress!

Good luck!

I have three MAJOR exams in November so I can't do it.

I will probably never do NaNoWriMo because i usually do
50 000 in a month anyway!!

I am also working on another novel and I can't use that because we can't use something from before and I really want to write this novel because I want to be able to query it to agents in 2 years!!

Me! I heard about it in February and have been looking forward to November since. It will be one crazy month but it will be fun and hopefully I will be able to get some good ideas down and like you say use it as a first draft. Good luck and I will contact you. I would like to have added motivation to get it done (i.e. sharing word counts!)

I am, and seriously procrastinating any attempt at planning, not because I'm lazy, but because I'm drowning in homework. Mine's going to be about an alcoholic named Preston who feels pain everytime someone dies. Though that doesnt seem to be a central enough conflict, so it will probably be a sub conflict.

Ok, Persiphone, you got me. What the heck is this? Never heard of it before.

I get up an hour early to work on my writing. Can be hard toward the end of the week, but I usually make it.
