About the Dexter series?

I picked up Dearly Devoted Dexter, thinking it was the first in the series. Now I'm home with it, and it looks like Darkly Dreaming Dexter was first.
If you've read the books, do you think I need to get and read Darkly first?

Yes and No...I did and still Im confused because there is a lot that is not matched up with the series. But to follow the story in the book read them in order.

I did the same thing I picked up #2 and got a few chapters into it before I realized.

Absolutely.Darkly Dreaming Dexter came first-this was the book that started it all.
