The Democrats only made this an issue so there would wind up being a back door to sabotage the Iraq war effort. Pathetic tactic designed to hurt our military. If the military suffers, it makes Bush look bad, and that's just what they want to do. They don't care about victory, or the brave soldiers fighting. They only care about their own agenda, even at the cost of American lives.
Disgusting.
They are the ones saying we shouldn't get involved with other countries, or interfere with policy, yet, they will dredge up ancient history, just so they can cause problems.
Now who's interfering with other countries? The congress is NOT the body of government to decide American foreign policy. That is the Executive branch. The Democrats say Bush has destroyed our image around the world, but they have just alienated one of our closest allies.
Good Going DemocRATS!

I am no fan of the Republicans or Bush, but I really have to wonder why the heck the Democrats are bringing this all up now. With all the other pressing issues this country is facing putting a label on something that happened nearly a 100 years ago in which all the participants are long dead is somehow important. Maybe instead of gnashing our teeth about that we should worry about some of the genocide that is going on now, like in Darfur. Who are we to lecture anyway?

Would it do any good? Us armenians haven't minded that it isn't brought up, some of our reasons being that it's done and over with. It doesn't make a difference what is or isn't recognized.
If anything, I'm insulted that any politician wants to use this as an argument for any agenda, whether pro war or anti war.
Edit:
Why are you all so dependent on your government to tell you what is or isn't a genocide? I recognize it as a genocide, but whether we are talking about the armenian genocide (And Armenia is still a country, just not at all what it was before the turks came in), the holocaust, or what's going on in Darfur now. It is what it is, whether government recognizes it or not.

Yes, that's what it was. I always referred to it as a genocide because that's what I was taught it was in history class. Until it came up in the news, I thought everyone referred to it as the Armenian Genocide. As for calling it a genocide hurting America's victory chances, America should just pull out of Iraq and look for the real criminal (Bin Laden) instead. The Iraqi civil war has been going on for years and we can't stop it. We shouldn't be letting American soliders die to try to stop it. Just my opinion since it's been brought up.

It's totally unnecessary. They should have better things to do with our tax dollars than debate a 100 year old so called genocide from a country that doesn't even exist anymore. This is nothing more than an underhand move to have our allies turn against us so we will lose the war. It's disgraceful.

You should ask it a different way:
"Should the US Congress deny the Armenian Genocide"?

Sure, in about another hundred years. This measure was a really stupid attempt to screw up relations with one of our best allies in the Near East at a time when we are fighting a war with supplies coming through Turkey and with the Kurd terrorist problem about to explode!
Now anyone with half a brain can plainly see thaT THE LEFT IN this country really does want us to lose in Iraq,

If someone had killed a loved one of yours fifty years ago and they found that person today, would you want them punished or to be allowed to stay free?
One other issue I want to bring up is this--since we are suppose to be promoting democracy in the world, shouldn't we be sanctioning Turkey since they are a dictatorship?
Also, what about Saudi Arabia? How come we don't sanction them since they are a monarchy?

Ask the Armenians what they think. They'll tell you "Yes, do it." But politically, now isn't the right time to do it I think.
