An informative speech can be about something as simple as carving a pumpkin...appropriate for this time of year. Give step by step instructions and throw a little humor in about how easy it is to mess it up. You will win your audience over in a flash...I used to be a part of the Toast Masters Group( a group that helps teach public speaking) and this subject got rounds of applause.

If you have no experience with public speaking and haven't had Toastmasters, or Toastmistress training, your best bet would be to talk about something you do well.

Do you have a hobby that others might find interesting to begin themselves? Is there a skill you use at work that can be applied to other tasks - perhaps something like being a good organizer. A lot of people have trouble knowing where to start to get their life, house, garage, office, etc. organized.

When in doubt, its always best to speak about something you know very well. You'll feel more comfortable talking about it, you can answer any questions more easily & the audience will pick-up on the fact that you really know what you're talking about.

The other answer about discussing something that fits the season is also good advice. Maybe you're an expert at handing Christmas lights or decorating a tree or baking cookies or making gift baskets or gift wrapping or shopping for just the right gift.

I hope one of these ideas gets your creative juices flowing!

I took public speaking and i too had to make an informative speech. my topic was on the history of tattooing. you can do it on a sport you like, or something that realy interests you and others might find interesting. it makes it way easier when you know something about your topic.

Do you have any hobbies that you are passionate about? It's easier to present information that you are familiar with & that you like.

For example, if you like origami - you could talk about it's origins, it's current popularity & maybe demonstrate how to create a simple item.

If you like skateboarding - explain how to get started & what to look for in a quality skateboard. (e.g. styles/brands, types of wheels, price range)
