early-to-mid 1980s cover of Sam Cooke's "Cupid"?

This song is in my head but i can't find any record of its existence. Not the Johnny Rivers or Johnny Nash versions. It's VERY 80s, rather cheesily produced. I'm guessing about 1884 or 85. Male singer. Who is he?

they made medley out of it called Cupid/I've loved You For a Long Time

you can find on pretty much any Spinners Greatest Hits cd.
