FIRSTLY and this is probably MORE important re the job ...
tuppenybitz was correct .. your boyfriend WILL NOT gain entry and permanacy JUST because you are married .....

there was story a while back where a Scotish woman was deported EVEN though she was married to an Aussie , because she had never applied for citizenship or long term residency .... THIS IS SOMETHING YOU NEED TO RESEARCH THOROUGHLY AND NOT JUST ASSUME

Now re work .. I think unless he gets work working for Philipinos.. he may be pushing to get even factory work ..

where I work we get many causals coming through via recruitment agencies .. and It IS IMPORTANT that they have a control and understanding of English otherwise instructions aren't followed properly and mistakes are made and mistakes cost $$$$$..

Don't get me wrong .. he's welcome here as far as I am concened. .. BUT you have to face the reality of the situation.

HE MAY get a spousal visa .. BUT ... even then he will have to jump through hoops to prove that yours isn't a marriage of convenience just to gain AU entry,

Its sad you've worked for a company for twenty years speaking English and are only now being asked to learn another language. Sadder still that you know another language but not the right one. I dont think it's discrimination, though. Businesses have to move forward with the times, and as unfair as it might seem, we live in a time now where there are millions of Spanish speaking potential customers living among us. I would have done exactly as you, but keep an open mind and live as if you were to die tomorrow and learn as if you'd live forever! Good luck!

Well Filipinos usually have pretty good English.

There is plenty of work for people without good English. Basically anything where you don't communicate with customers or about professional topics.

Areas include factory work, restaurant work (kitchen hand), supermarket work (the communication is fairly simple even for a checkout person) and so on. Most takeaway places are staffed by people with low levels of English (at least in Sydney) so he can give this a go.

The main problem is getting a work visa (I assume you are going to get married)

He definitely will not automatically become an Australian citizen. You must sponsor him, and he will possibly be given a spouse visa, which is a two-year temporary visa. After two years the immigration department will ask for proof that the marriage is ongoing and genuine and after they are satisfied they will grant him a permanent residence visa. After another two years he can then apply for citizenship.

he will NOT automatically become a citizen if you marry him, he will have to be sponsored by you and you have to prove you can support him.he will have to pass immigration requirements like everyone else, and if he cant speak english it wont be easy
i suggest you read the immigration website
