I love fantasy including supernatural and the occult. I am currently reading the Dragon Lance chronicles. I like books similar to that as well. What are your favorites?

Please Please do not say the Lord of the Rings trilogy

Also please no Harry Potter suggestions either. While I do love Harry Potter I am looking for adult fantasy novels.

The Mists of Avalon is my favorite fantasy. It is an Arthurian tale written from the point of view of Morgan Le Fae.

I also love Frank Hubert's Dune. It is technically sci-fie but it also has a lot of fantasy aspects to it. It is, in my opinion, the best sci-fie book ever written.

The only fantasy novel that I truly enjoyed, besides LOTR (sorry) is The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

And one of my favorite novels in recent memory is Jonathan Stange and Mr. Norrell, by Susanna Clarke. It's not really the standard wizards/mythical beasts fantasy, but it has a lot of bookish magic. It was advertised as a "Harry Potter for adults" but it really is a very different story and is actually quite dark, and she writes like Jane Austen, if you like that kind of literature.

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

I hope this helps.

You may like some of Mercedes Lackey books, especially her Diana Tregard books, and the Bedlam Bards series. Diana is a witch and the Bedlam Bard series deals with a lot of supernatural.

I'd suggest the Darkover series by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Also, the Dragonriders series by Anne McCaffrey is good.
