ever try a factor tree? it might help. or look at it like this:
what is the lowest prime number that can go into 120? 2
120 / 2 =60
the lowest prime number of 60? 2
60 / 2 = 30
lowest prime number of 30? 2
30 / 2 = 15
lowest prime number of 15? 3
15 / 3= 5
Five is prime. the answer is 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5
or do "the tree"
120 = 30 x 4
30 = 15 x 2
4 = 2 x 2
15 = 3 x 5
circle all the prime numbers, and list them in numeracle order.
120= 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 OR 2 to the third power x 3 x 5
here is a good link to help and illustrate what I mean: http://www.amby.com/educate/math/2-1_fact.html
the picture in red at this link: http://www.math.ksu.edu/~dph/010_readings/Unit1Lesson1_files/Short60.gif illustrates what I was saying with the first example.
good luck! I hope this helps! the links explain it well. i had a really good factor tree done, but then I remembered that on the answers, it excludes all the exra spaces, thus completely ruining my tree =-(

60 ÷ 2 = 30
30 ÷ 2 = 15
15 ÷ 3 = 5
5 ÷ 5 = 1
120 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 5
