My son just turned 4 months. His Acid Reflux has peaked very bad. Projectile vomiting with every feeding, not gaining weight, wheezing, screaming and crying, not getting enough fluids, etc. I just asked a question about cereal in the bottle and all the response were, its bad, its not recommended. I was just asking about switching, I do not want people telling me not to do it. He just started rice cereal in the bottle about 5 days ago. And he's a completly different baby. He's happy, no screaming or crying anymore, no more vomiting, he's keeping everything down now. I tried spoon feeding him, he is NOT ready. People just dont understand, if they have never gone through it. But If I can I would really like to keep him off th meds. But the problem now is he's getting constipated and not enough wet diapers. Should I switch to a different cereal? he's getting rice now. Is it ok to put oatmeal in the bottle?? DONT answer if you dont have experience. Any other advice for Acid Reflux. THANKS

my child is 7 months old and her doc put her on zantac for acid reflux but i read the side effects that were very rare but still bad so i took her off it. but i give her cereal in every bottle and have since she was 2 weeks old. if it constipates your baby give him prune juice or karo syrup in a few bottles a day.

Enfimal (as you may already know) makes a formula with the rice mixed in with it. I haven't used it before, but this might be an option. My son had acid reflux(heartburn) and I found out a strange thing. I had tried a whole bunch of formulas, but nothing worked. Then one day, I decided to do something strange(he was six months old). I decided to put him on Emfimal's regular milk formula. He did great on it! I could not believe it.
You are right that every child is different, but I would recommend that you keep trying to feed your son by using the spoon. When you first start spoon feeding him he probably will only take a very small amount.

I've never heard of a baby having colic from the day they are born. Colic is usually diagnosed after other things are ruled out. If he is fighting eating that much it doesn't sound like acid reflux, which is where actual stomach acids come up the esophogus. My baby was put on zantac, and it seemed to help a little, but he still spit up until he was 10 months old. Good luck at the docs on Monday.

My son had this in the worse possible case. We had to stop the formula (even with cereal and what not). We were feeding him baby food at 3 months. If you ask people on here they will not agree however I talked to my doctor about it and was told to try it out for a while and see what the result was. He started gaining weight right away. He went from 9 pounds to 7 pounds in a week and a half due to the vomiting. Then eating the baby food he gained 3-4 oz every three days, it was wonderful. Also a light at the end of the tunnel is he out grew acid reflux decease at age one. He still (age 3 now) can not eat things like pepperoni and spicier sausages. they make him very cranky, sleepless, and vomiting so we stay away from them all together. I hope this all helps.

When we discovered my son had acid reflux, we gave him his medicine as recommended and cereal had to go into everything he ate, bottle and babyfood. It did not hurt him and he was fine. We also found out that soy formula can caues the acid reflux, which at the time he was on Isomil with soy, so we switched to Nestle Good Start and it helped with the reflux alot.

I answered your previous question.
Our kids didn't outgrow their reflux until they were about 9 months old.
If he's not ready to spoon feed, and you don't want the meds, then you have to keep doing what you're doing.
Since you've already tried him on rice, oatmeal is usually the next grain. Go ahead and try it.
But check back with your pediatrician for more advice. She/he may suggest offering more/different fluids instead of changing cereals.

Mylicon drops for babies and you may want to change his formula and give a bottle(or 2 per day) of water with a little Karo syrup(lite corn syrup about a teaspoon per 4 oz bottle) for the constipation. And always make sure you burp him . Improper burping can cause reflux

I changed my babies formula after being told that. She had projectile vomitting and wheezing. It was the formula that was causing it. I put her on soy based formula and all of it stopped, plus I didn't have to do anything else. She never was constipated or had gas after that either.
