I can close my door on my 1988 Ranger truck all day long and very rarely will it close all the way. It's like this on both my driver and passenger door. I've noticed that my door latch striker is missing the little yellowish thing that goes around it. Could this be what is causing my problem? I need this fixed ASAP I've already had my door to fly open while going down the road. HELP!!!!!

Dude...your truck is twenty years old. The strikers are most likely the problem. The extreme wear isn't allowing the latch to connect past the first safety setting when closed. Now, the latches themselves are probably worn/damaged. Try replacing the two strikers first (very inexpensive) and move on the the latches if that fails.

Take it to a good bodyshop and have them adjust the doors to latch correctly....should only take an hour at the most. The little yellowish piece on the striker is just an anti-rattle silencer and will not harm the latch or cause it to not close properly. Wrap the striker in electrical tape or similiar to silence any squeaks.
