That should have been enough to stop the Nazis from starting war. If they Invaded Poland, Stalin would have seen it as an act of war, and mobilized. The Nazis did not want another 2 front war in the East and West, even though that's what they eventually got. They would not have invaded if they expected 2 fronts. But the agreement with Stalin allowed them to divide Poland, and Germany could quickly swing concentration to a fight with France.

Umm.. first of all, I don't remember anything about Stalin having been in kahoots with the Nazis. We weren't exactly big fans of Stalin and communism-- that's for sure-- but Russia was a major force on that continent, and the Allies couldn't really afford to not to keep things clean while they were trying to keep the whole continent from being taken over...

You have to do this yourself, but for starters, Germany probably wouldn't have been able to go as far as they did if the USSR and Germany didn't sign a treaty.

Basically, it allowed Germany to put it's major forces into one front and not fight the war on two fronts.
