First you measure your ribcage(right under your breasts), add 5 inches to that.If your rib area is 31 you are a 36
Then you measure yourself around the fullest part of your bustline. the difference in this number and the number from the first measurement is how you determine your cup size.
A 1 inch difference is an A cup
A 2 inch difference is a B cup
A 3 inch difference is a C cup etc.
EXAMPLE A
If you rib measurement is 31 add 5 = 36
The fullest part of your bust is 38 then you have a 2 inch difference between the two measurements which means you would be a B cup 36B
EXAMPLE B
ribs 33+5=38
fullest bust measurement 42
42-38=4...........38D

Learn how to measure by reading: What Every Woman Should Know About Bra Shopping

A bra size has a number and a letter
The number is equivalent to the band size – around your torso. The letter is your cup size, which holds your breasts.

Measure for band size first, around your ribs just under your breasts. Check in a mirror to make sure your tape measure is making a straight horizontal line all the way around your body. The band of your bra should hug you snugly, but not choke you tightly. Round up or down to the nearest inch if your measurement is not a whole number. If the number is even, add four; and add five if your measurement is odd. Write this number down. This is best done with help of someone else so your arms are down at your sides.

Next, measure for cup size by wrapping the tape measure around your body at the fullest part of your breasts, again making sure that the tape measure is even in front and back, parallel to the floor. Round the number up or down to a whole inch. Write the number on your pretty paper.

Now, simply subtract the second (larger) number from the first number and note the difference. The difference between the two numbers is your cup size.

Take a tape measure and measure the circumference around
your rib cage under your bustline. This will give you the size
of the bra. For the cup size I've been measured over the
bust and around the back. I don't know how they get the
cup size from that. I suggest you go to a regular foundation
dept. in a dept. store, and ask a clerk for someone who knows how to fit bras properly. When I used to have problems
when young, there was always someone with experience to
help me try them on. I'd have to lean over to see how much of
the cup I filled, and then go larger to a larger cup if I bulged or
too snug. After nursing, you've probably increased in size but
it would also depend on the weight loss. Try the size you
normally wear, if no one is there to help. And then go upor
down in size as needed. If the breast is the same, you'd stay in that same cup size. If larger, then a cup size larger. So if one bra is snug, you'd want to go larger. Be it in cup or circumference around the rib cage. Take a larger size in
with you, plus the size you now wear. If what your wearing is
fine, then stay with that size of course. You be the judge.

Go to an upscale store and let them fit you. You may find the most wonderful bras and if you don't you will at least know your size. Keep in mind that some brands will vary a little and your size will change over the next few months. So don't buy but one or two at a time.

When you go into look for a bra it is an essential must that you go and get fitted for a bra (measured). If your bra isn't right for you then you could have back problems and your boobs could also become tender and also have problems with your shoulders.

It is very scary going in to get fitted for the first time but the ladies that fit other women for bra's are well experience and see any where from 50-200 boobs every day. .

gud luck
