The Bay Bridge is currently open. The new span however, is not. It is not due for completion untill sometime around 2008 or 2009.

But mang... that weekend it was closed? SF was so nice and uncrowded and I didn't almost get run over by any crazy East Bay suburb drivers!

umm..yes it is open, why wouldn't it be? Unless you are thinking of the closure that happened labor day weekend, but that only lasted for 3 days for some earthquake retrofitting.

it's always open during construction, except for a few occasional holiday weekends.
the new span is not ready yet, and won't be for a few more years.
