How can you see boy and girl parts earily in a pregnancy. I thought babys all looked like girls in the beginning and they if it was a boy a boy part would form. Someone told me that they all look the same in the beginning (13 weeks). Thanks for your opinions!!

You are correct that the differences don't happen until after 13 weeks. That's why most ultrasounds to determine the sex of the baby are done at 18-20 weeks.

The genitalia does not begin to differentiate until about 12-13 weeks, that's true. They look exactly the same until that point. Then it takes another couple of weeks minimum before those changes are evident in an ultrasound. That's why they usually can't tell you what the gender is via ultrasound until you have your 16-20 week scan.

I didn't get complete confirmation until 30 weeks... but I wasn't completely satisified until I got a 3D ultrasound and saw her parts for myself. Then I was relieved to see what colors to paint the nursery. Before then she was always in a position to where I couldn't see her gender. Now, at the ultrasound I got confirmation but she hid her face. :-(.. Boy, is she camera shy!!! But at least her room is done and her clothes are bought. :-)
