I would give it a ten also. It's one of his best. People really did sometimes get buried alive in the past, this alone would have been frightening. Poe builds the story up so that it's spelbinding.

9.5, if only because of applying it on a curve to overall body of work. He's written some other stories I like equally if not better, such as "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Cask of Amontillado," but Usher is right up there with his best and also with the best American stories of all-time.

Im a huge EAP fan, I dont think there is anything I have stumbled across that I didnt care for. My least fave is Annabel Lee, and I still love it
