Ok, are you testing this theory here on Yahoo before you present to the significant other that you have been cheating on?

Yeah, it's weird. Society and religion (at least Christianity, which dominates the U.S.) all enforce monogamy. But it's no secret that men, especially, typically have the drive to want to f**k every woman they see. And even women sometimes display this drive (though not nearly as often in my observations). And there's all the reasoning you stated in your question. So it seems like we're all forcing ourselves into monogamy when it's not natural.
But on the other hand, a lot of people do want to be monogamous, especially when they've found someone they really like. Women especially, in my observations, state specifically that they ONLY feel sexual attraction towards their husband. Even some men express that sentiment towards their wife. And also, monogamy has a lot of perks. 1.) you don't have to try to find the next person to have sex with because your partner is already there. 2.) it makes for a stable life and secure family situation. 3.) You don't have to worry about diseases if your monogamous with someone that you've already confirmed is healthy.
So in the end, who knows what's best? It's weird.

You have brought this specious argument here before. You forget that a child is not just any 9 pound bundle. You have also not learned any evolutionary biology since last post. A women is responsible for propagating her own genes. What could an adaption called " for the good of the species ' possible look like. This is the major problem in all group/species selection concepts. Women have evolved, other methods than " dating lots and lots of men " to pick the best mate they can.

Both men and women are capable of being monogamous if they want. Or they can have multiple partners if they want. Lots of things are natural, like killing an enemy, but most of us don't commit murder. I don't think women are any more likely to be monogamous than men but in the end, it is up to the individual how they want to conduct their life.

In response to an above poster's comment about hunter-gatherer societies:
Actually, it's been proven that women provided the vast majority of food in those societies. Males would often hunt, but nonetheless females provided most of what the people would eat. The group could survive without the male contributions, but not the female's. (In terms of food, anyway).
Anyway...
It's true that we must pick the best possible partner to produce children with. But we don't have to have sex with every one of them in order to tell whose genes are best.
That said, if you want to f*ck half the team, go for it. As I see it, you don't need anyone else to approve your sexual activities. I don't think anyone (male or female) should use biological excuses as to why they commit the actions they commit...because we can overcome that wiring easily (as evidenced by the fact that SO MANY people do, and do it very happily). If you don't want to be monogamous, then don't be monogamous...but don't try to find some biological justification for your actions because YOU DON'T NEED ONE. Your own desires are justification enough.

Yes, we are meant to be monogamous. What I mean is we are not cats, a cat can breed with as many males as she wants and with each male she breeds with she has a kitten in his likeness.
We as humans can only do one man at time, cause once that egg's been fertilized the door is closed, no more eggs either.

I'm sorry I disagree. First is that people did not make the connection for genetic illness in history because it is usually not clearly between healthy and sickly babies.
And you are describing a form of monogamy just that a woman would have relations with one partner and than after another. If she was having polygamous relationships she usually would not know who the father of her babies are.
I would rather avoid such arguments in favour of saying that women by choice should be able to be in relationships that we want to.

I don't feel either sex is meant to be monogamous. I think it's something we are raised to ignore, and overcome. I believe a lot of people cheat for this reason, you can be raised one way but human nature can over power the weaker people and they will cheat.

The seed-spreaders end up alone and miserable - and minus the house and car. In fact, when the judge hears them excuse their philandering on the grounds that "they need multiple partners to spread their seeds" the judge awards as much as possible to the wife and kids.
Angry that they got themselves into this mess in the first place they wail and howl and rant and whine and bellow about the evil feminists who destroyed their lives. After all, they were only doing what any virile stud would do - and you can't argue with 'Mr. Happy', right?
Go figure.
