The same as Priscilla. I was in Economics browsing through, and came across a GWS question. The hate hit me like a brick wall.

Hate spoken in soft tones, collectively makes stentorian social impacts. Once established, the hate takes on a Hysteresis effect, laying the foundation for the well-established ideological contradictions taught by Quasi-Intelligentsia. The Quasi-Intelligentsia, has the most profound impact on spreading the ideological contradictions, in that they partially adhere to Reason(not to be confused with fully adhering to partial Reason). The remaining views they adhere to is incoherence, which is the poison that fills possessed ears.

I had been studying feminism, divorce, custody and child support, marriage and more for several decades when I was directed to this site from a newsgroup.

I expected more of the same s that received in my other studies, which was primarily trying to make sense of this insensible world but instead I found ignorance and outright stupidity to an extent I didn't think possible.

I expected reason, discussion and qualified answers. I was overly optimistic. What I found was the gullible and misled trying to sound authoritative with a heavy helping of biased and unfounded claims.

So, no, my expectations were not fulfilled but rather a dread for the lives my children will be subjected to after realizing that sex-based hatred is what is driving legislation and cultural demands today in the US.

Priscilla B said it, I think. Some discussions about issues of interest, with maybe a little philosophy thrown in would be nice, and it's always nice to see that type of Q come up.

The constant 'gender wars' aspect of GWS can be a little wearing, especially as a lot of it seems to be emotionally based, rather than scholastic or informed. I'm admiring of the women who stay the course with cool heads, lol.

But it can also be fun, and it's interesting because questions asked here are not canvassed elsewhere on Y!A. Plus, some of the Answerers are very intelligent and articulate, and well worth reading.

Cheers :-)

My expectations were to learn and gain insight into things that I was genuinely curious about. And to explain my perceptions of things.
Some of my questions have received fulfilling answers. But for the most part, I feel like AT LEAST 75% of the answers I get to all of my questions are so off-bass, as if the person is interpreting my question wrong. And I usualy take great care to word my questions in ways so that I think they will be clear. So it makes me mad when I get absurd answers.

I kept wondering what GWS is.. until I saw Gender & Women's Studies. :)
I cant agree less with Shingoshi Dao. Lot of useless, non essential, take you no where "STUDIES", but some good stuff too. What do you expect, Its Social Science - Drama, attitude, love, care & society. Its been helpful to me.

Didn't really have any, but just noticed alot of bashing going on. Only thing that's happened is I'm more confused and tired by the more I read here, because nothing's really been solved..
After mulling over this question for a little while, and the whole thing reminds me of the situation with my mom. Learnt that trying to please her, earned me no respect at all, she would just further walk all over me, until one day I had enough and told her where to go in no polite terms. Same happens here.

To learn about misandry. It destroyed my last relationship.

There's a lot of misogyny and misandry in GWS. I am fulfilled enough to know that both are excrement and neither will fertilize any relationship.

That I would see obdurate, ideological incoherence. For the most part, my expectations have been fulfilled. Ah, for the good old days, when Juniper brought some considered answers to this ideological waste land. The battle must go on, though. You ideological feminists need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Yes. I was hoping to meet people from other countries. I haven't been out of the US for 3 years. That's very unusual for me. I guess I miss the world, and in a way, I find it here. Yes, there are some jerks around, but I met a few really nice women who gave me some great professional advice. That was worth all the jerks.

thanks ladies -

Essentially the same as Priscilla B, but I can usually find room for a little intelligent discourse throughout the day.
