ARMENIAN WOMEN PUT UP FOR AUCTION

Refugee Tells of the Fate of Those in Turkish Hands
Speaking yesterday, his remarks being based on the authenticated data in his possession, Professor Dutton said he does not believe anything had happened in many centuries so terrible as is the studied and systematized effort on the part of a political coterie in Turkey - the Young Turks, led by Enver Pasha - to exterminate a whole race of people. The whole plan involves the wiping out of the Armenians.
Only a day or two ago, added Professor Dutton, a young girl who left Turkey on Aug 18 called here to see him. She told of the fate of the 100 girls who were attending a mission school in Anatolia. These girls, who were of course Armenians, were divided into groups and those that were the best looking in the opinion of the Turkish officers were taken over by those officers. Those considered not quite so good looking were given over to the soldiers, while those still less attractive were put up for sale to the highest bidders.
Several Americans who have been in Turkey for many years have arrived here within the last few days. They all testify to the truthfulness of the reports that have come out of Turkey concerning the treatment of the Armenians, but in every instance they beg that their names be not used for fear that what they have said will find its way back to Turkey and friends or relatives they left behind will be punished by the Turks in retaliation.
Copies of two letters, in which the writers tell of the fate that is being meted out to the Armenians, were given to The Times yesterday by a man in close touch with Armenian conditions.
In one of these letters the writer among other things says:
In Urtab, Tukh, and about twenty other Armenian villages on the lake the entire population was found to have been massacred by the Turks - not a single living soul was found in these villages, which were now given over to howling dogs, while large numbers of corpses have been washed ashore from the lake and the rivers.
These corpses, which were ascertained to be all of males, were terribly mutilated, but nothing was discovered as to the whereabouts of women and children. By sunset of July 20 the Armenians captured the heights of Kerkur. When they reached the summit the town of Bitlis presented to their disappointed gaze a sheet of flames, and they knew that the worst had happened. Some female refugees, who managed to escape the Turkish cordon, have since related the story of fiendish massacres in the town and the wholesale deportation of women and children.
To a well known minister of the Armenian Church there came out of Turkey, by some mysterious underground route, a letter which is described as of "undoubted trustworthiness" Excerpts from their letter follow:
Armenia without the Armenians - such is the plan of the Ottoman Government, which has already begun to install Moslem families in the homes and property of the Armenians. Needless to say, the deported are not allowed by the Government to take any of their belongings with them, and as there is moreover, no means of transport owing to the exigencies of the military, they are forced to cover on foot the two or three months' journey to that corner of the desert region which is destined to be their sepulchre.

If you say you think this is OK then you say abortion is OK.
These are the first Christians in 301 and this gave the Germans the training for the Jews.
Now tell me that 90 years ago is not a factor when 70 is.

If you deny this you deny what happened to the Jews and jion the ranks of Iran littler man Macmoud Amdimajad. And you should be tried in the Hag Like GWB wants the Teaxs courts to do with the illegal Mexican who raped and mudered two little girls.

It is not that we don't see the injustice - it is really quite obvious.
However, I seriously doubt that there is a single living soul in Turkey today that had even a remote connection to these atrocities - and that's the issue, not what happened almost 100 years ago.
It's like the question of reparation for the slaves - it's certainly a sad page in America's history - but it is none the less history, and really doesn't have a place in determining present day policies in an effort to try and gloss it over with some "well intentioned" hand outs - it is water under the bridge - there is simply no way to truly amend what was done over a hundred years ago by people who are long dead and gone. Efforts to see that it never happens again, in both examples, are really the issues that should be addressed.

Wait a minute. There was an attempt by sadam to commit genecide on his people, we invaded now everyone says unjust war, now you are saying the U.S. should go into yet another country, How about darfur? That is happening now! When people stop playing party politics regarding human rights maybe all the government leaders including dems would decide to promote the right thing, the U.N going in as a coalition. But why would the U.N support the U.S when the U.S. is so fickle...Our own party fight for votes castrates the US from doing anything even having any credability with the UN.

The problem is that it was the Ottoman Empire for one, which is modern day Turkey. Those people are right in saying that modern Turkey had nothing to do with it, however, modern Germany had nothing to do with the Holocaust, modern Japan had nothing to do with the Rape of Nanking or POW treatment, and modern Russia had nothing to do with the murder of 1,000 of Polish officers during WW2, however they all take reposibility even though they wish they could forget it.

Also part of the problem is that the Ottoman Government at the time, ran it off as an "accident" and not a genocide which it was. Now should the Turkish government pay $$$ for an incident 90 years ago, no. America should not pay the Native Americans for that, as they didn't do it. However both should at least acknowledge the incidents, both Turkey and America.

There were alot of incidents, most less severe than Armenia, that occured that won't be recognized though.

Because it happened over 100 years ago and was not the fault of the present Government of Turkey. Its as crazy as condemning present day Germany for the mass murder of the jews. This insane resolution irritates a strong ally of the US for no good reason and puts american Soldiers in danger. Pity my brothers on the left can't go after genocide happening right now instead of 100 years ago.

This resolution was brought forward for a vote numerous times. .. . . DURING THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION (don't mind the caps , they're only to emphasize a point).

The Clinton administration always said , "Now is not a good time". . . then later , "Now is not a good time".. . . . . and so on .

Well we didn't have 140,000 troops counting on the supply lines right through Turkey for their very survival like we do right now for our guys and gals in Iraq. The timing is the only problem here . And I'll assume that you didn't know that it was the Republicans who put this forward countless times under Clinton .
