I'm a chaperone for my childs 2nd grade field trip and I'm supossed to be "dressed up" and I don't want to over dress. The trip is to a play at a high class play house. I'm a young female.

A nice pair of slacks, blouse and flats (you will be on your feet alot with 2nd graders.

Dress in bright colors so the children can easily identify and find you in a crowd in case they should stray.
Other than that, semi-casual. Look nice, but be practical. If you wear a skirt or blouse, be sure that nothing will show when you stoop down to deal with a squirming child.
Also, no heels. Flats work better if for any reason you need to run after a child.

Well...it's a little odd to request that for a 2nd grade trip....but they are probably not wanting t-shirts and shorts, or sweats....so I would play it safe and wear a skirt and sweater, a dress (like you would wear to church, or a nice type of pants suit. They just don't want casual clothes. So don't wear spaghetti straps, bra-less tops, skimpy clothes that show too much, and beach wear or jeans....and do wear real shoes.

You should wear slacks and a nice shirt. It doesnt even need to be a blouse and some flats since you need to chase after kids. Most parents dont even dress up after they say the rules.
Bring an extra change of clothes if you dont feel comfortable with your choice at the end.

Conservative business attire (pant/skirt suit, classic line dress) should be OK. Think lawyer, banker etc.

umm either a long black skirt with a pink satin top partialy unbuttoned
or a nice pair of bussiness slacks and a nice dressy shirt
