weird only 1 other person got the right answer. Yawns are only contagious because we have a natural instinct to the body language a yawn conveys. WE REACT TO BODY LANGUAGE. writing * Yawn * doesn't hit that instinct, and it doesn't even mean that you are yawning. Maybe the partial answer to why it could be somewhat contagious sometimes is that because people are followers. You'll probably get as much of an effect writing LMAO or LOL, but my point is, the way it is contagious and how effectively contagious it is between the two methods are vastly different things. In one respect you are hitting a primitive instinct, in the other you are hitting someone with low self-esteem that can't exactly have original thoughts of their own all the time and have to follow us alphas like a flock of sheep (I guess the sheep thing is kinda primitive too, but I've always felt that low intelligence was to blame more for that).

I believe that even the slightest thing that reminds you of a yawn would cause you to think 'yawn.' Once when you think 'yawn,' you feel the urge to. Unless you are actually trying to avoid yawning for some reason. Gosh, doesn't it feel good to yawn!? Haha.

Yeah, If someone types the word yawn, or say that they just yawned, I'll start doing it. Then I feel like an idiot.

definately YES..i and 7 other family members were sitting in the living room and i yawned and one bye one everyone began to yawn it was hillarious, because then i i began to fake yawning and the and we all kept yawning, this went on for almost an hour ...ill never forget that day... ..lol

Since large amount of people this days lacks sleep, and when they see the word "yawn" they just just remember that they're tired and started doing it.
