One MIGHT say that the Universe is eternal, IF you believe in the big bang/big crunch theory. The theory basically says that one follows the other endlessly. The big bang spews matter outwards until eventually it begins to contract again, resulting in a big 'crunch' which ends up with things being so compacted that it sets off a new big bang.

As far as anything you or I have ever seen, heard, smelled, tasted, touched or otherwise sensed goes, none of that is eternal.

(I'm sure I will get a few thumbs down for using logic here but I'm used to it.)

But here is a logical reply to your question:

Your question can not be answered rightfully with either a yes or a no. The reason why is because that until someone has lived through and witnessed an eternity no one could possibly know if there will be an eternity. We can conjure and surmise all we want but until it happens (or at least appears it is happening) we can only ponder the question.

Could our universe or any other survive forever? We have no way of possibly knowing unless or until it does. And even if there was a reverse big bang something would still exist from all the imploded debris. Something will always exist. The only fair reply would be in imagining what that something was.

Change is eternal. But that is not a thing. And since all things change it could be said that no thing is eternal. Unless you go to "Magical Heavenland" where nothing ever changes, and the rides are free all day!

Do you mean nothing as in no thing is eternal, or nothing as the shortened version of nothingness?

As for no thing is eternal, that is true for things that do not contain spirits or souls, as in matter, unless you are a pantheist. Nevertheless they are susceptible to erosion and entropy, where as man, who is some one, can overcome and strive to be immortal. Yet to be eternal is to have no beginning and no end, to be in the eternal present. The only eternal one is God, who is the absolute, a synthesis of what and who.

As for nothingness, it is eternal according to Sartre and Hegel, for it is THE negation of Being in its fullest. Since being is infinite, so shall Nothingness be.

False, I think. Everything changes, but everything is recycled one way or another. So it may be unrecognizable in its new form or condition, but all the particles that made it up would still be somewhere. And I think time itself might be eternal whether there's anyone to observe it or not.

well what a debate I`m having! I would say true. nothing does last forever. I have had nothing for a very long time now and it shows no signs of ever becoming anything other than nothing!

True, even the ancient Universe must one day expire, all things within its scope must then expire as well. Existence is not a static thing, always moving toward the ending. To start again and end again as well.

The outwards appearance of everything in existence is not eternal, however, what that matter is composed of is, and cannot be disposed of.
