Being the commish during the steroids era is the most damning thing against him, and boy is it damning. This wasn't just one or two players or a couple of years. This is dozens, potentially hundreds of players over the course of his entire reign as commissioner! The fact that not only did he not do anything about it, but flat out denied the problem even existed for years, makes him look even worse. Something could have been done in the late 90s when home run totals were up all around baseball. But nothing was done, or even suggested until the mid 2000s and by the time testing was in place it was just a slap on the wrist 10-day suspension. It wasn't until player, both past and present, were named and tested positive and admitted to it, and not to mention the inquiries from Congress, did Selig finally impose a harsher penalty. The money that Selig has brought in does not matter if the integrity of the game has been compromised. Selig will be seen by the fans and the media as the worst commissioner in MLB history. And us fans can only hope that the person who replaces him will have the guts to go after the players who cheat and restore to integrity to a once proud sport.

I'm not sure who is at the top of the list. The commissioners who were popular with the owners usually didn't do a particularly good job with issues relevant to fans.
Selig has brought the wild-card, revenue-sharing, some labor peace, and interleague play to baseball. He also has improved the organization of the marketing departments of the sport to bring it up to pro standards. Selig hasn't solved all of the big issues, but he's done some things well.
Look at his predecesors. Kenesaw Landis wouldn't let teams break the color line. Happy Chandler did allow Jackie Robinson in, and was shown the door. Ford Frick let baseball sink in popularity. Bowie Kuhn tried but didn't make too much progress as legal changes came to the game. Peter Ueberroth was involved in collusion. Bart Giamatti wasn't around long enough. Fay Vincent tried to help but got nowhere with the owners, and shown the door.
Get the idea?

Are you high? Bud Selig is responsible for baseball being in the sorry state it is currently in. You want to ask baseball fans in KC, Tampa, MILWAUKEE, MONTREAL about how "good" a job he's doing?

The decision to call the All Star game a tie a couple of years ago had to be about the stupidest thing I have ever witnessed in all of professional sports. So in my book he will never live that down.

I detest the man. For these little or no reasons:
1.) He mis-handled the steroids and PEDs issue.
2.) He blocked millions of fans from the division series and the NLCS
3.) He may have increased revenues but the fan is still the sucker.

He is absolutely horrendous! He has had his head in the sand ignoring the steroids problem for a long time, afraid of losing customers and hurting revenue. What we need is another Kenesaw Mountain Landis as commissioner to clean up baseball.

I think history will show that although a lot of people dislike Bud for little or no reason, he did a great many great things for the sport during his time as commissioner. Baseball wouldn't be where it is today ($6,000,000,000 in revenue this year!?!?!) without his leadership.
