Most have been started by an arsonist. I am very close to the Irvine fire, which was determined as arson. The Malibu fire, I believe, was something else. The winds are contributing to these fires. The fire in Lake Arrowhead may have been arson as well.

Someone said that the Malibu fire was caused by a downed power line. Maybe someone else can confirm this rumor.

Here in Orange County, we've had about 2½ inches of rain in the past 18 months, so it's of no surprise that, along with the Santa Ana winds, there is a major fire going on at this moment. The firebugs (arsonists) love these conditions; it's like their Super Bowl.

I hope whoever started this is caught and prosecuted. The smell of the smoke is making so many people sick, not to mention the trauma suffered by those who have lost or are in fear of losing their homes.

I'm not sure. Maybe an arsonist. But the reason it's getting so bad is how dry everything is and the high high winds. Not to mention as they've mentioned on the news, little pieces of debris caught on fire are flying from the winds, landing, and starting another fire. But I'm sure after all this is taken care of, they'll look into what caused it. I'm not sure anybody knows right now.

It's the constant wind that's blowing the dry plants. I watch the news and it said it was windy and low in humidity, which causes a highly flamible area.

But based on the answers I'm reading, it's an arsonist..

Forget it, it is caused by arsonist -- well it might have been. A firefighter on ABC news stated that he believes it is caused by an arsonist. Apologies for my mistake.

At first it was believed to be caused by a downed power line in Malibu Canyon, but now they are saying that all of them was caused by arson, since it started in three different locations.
