Weird question. I know.

Im pretty sure black mold can attach to aluminum and discolor it? Can it do this to stainless steel as well? If so, does it just discolor it or does it embed itself into it? Can it be cleaned? I think I might have some in a pan that I left out a little damp overnight.

There are micro-organisms that eat into the surface of metals by producing reactive sulfur compounds. However, it's unlikely that this is what you are seeing. Try soaking the pan in some white vinegar or cleaning it with an acidic cleanser like Barkeeper's Friend. Use an abrasive scouring pad only as a last resort, as you may damage the passivation, and don't use steel wool - it can cause pitting.

What happens is that the mold produces chemicals that react with the metal hence leaving the "stain" you see in aluminum.

This will happen if you left something for the mold to grow on, like a food coating or moisture on the metal surface.

Stainless steel is pretty hardy against most chemicals, so it is difficult to stain.

Since it is metal, you should be able to sand & buff it off.

I don't think the black mold that grows in walls and the spores can attach to anything and can be deadly is the same kind of black mold on your pan. You should be able to clean your pan with a normal cleaner. Thank goodness.
