I guess there are people who don't like gays but are still ok with magic. Now she lost that precious few who can't handle one or the other. I can't believe she did it just to make Christians mad. The Muslims were probably pretty mad about it, too. And don't forget the Hindu's and Sihk's- I bet they didn't like it either. But on the bright side, he didn't appear to be a practicing homosexual- that makes it ok for some, right? And we certainly don't know if he'd ever consummated his relationship, for all we know he could be a virgin. That would restore him to his priestly status, would it not?
Hell, at this point, I'd love it if in the epilogue to the epilogue, Hermione leaves Ron for Ginny.
So she widened the pool of haters, that's what happens when you take a stand. You may stand alone, but you should still do it if that's your conviction.

No. She isn't looking for more publicity. She isn't trying to provoke Christians. She was asked a question in an interview and only answered it.
In an interview, it stated that she wasn't expected the reaction of fans. She said that Dumbledore is her character and that she can do whatever she wants with him and that there've been plenty of gay men who have been very successful in life.
(Not completely certain:)
She came up with the idea when writing the Half-Blood Prince and sent a letter to the director stating that Dumbledore was gay.

Not true! J.K Rowling is Christian--I REPEAT---Christian. She has been quotes as saying, "I belive in God, not magic", which is proof she knows her stories are fiction. She's also very charitable, an aspect of Christianity.
JK Rowling knows EVERYTHING about her characters because she's a talented writer. She knows the birthdays and middle names of characters, even if that info isn't in the book. She knows it.
SHE CREATED DUMBLEDORE. Don't you think she'd know what his sexual orientation was? People were speculating abotu his love life, and she had to set the record straight.

No dear, I don't think that JKR has an agenda, or is seeking more publicity.
According to the story I read, she had told the writer of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore was gay because there was mention of a female love interest in the screenplay and she had to set them right. Having done that, she might as well have made it public, since it would have eventually come out anyway--she could control when and how it was done. and in any case, this story came out because she was directly asked if Dumbledore loved anyone.
Throughout the series, we know Dumbledore as a tireless and seemingly single-minded fighter against Dark Wizards (at least from Harry's perspective; we do have to remember that Albus is also a great teacher, an alchemist, and important theoretical Wizard--remember the tools and instruments he made himself). But how did Albus become that way?
We learn much about this in DH, with Arianna's story, Aberforth's story and the story of the friendship between Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. In reading DH, it was clear that Grindelwald seduced Dumbledore on a number of levels; intellectually, ideologically, and, by JKR's new revelation, emotionally. We don't know if that seduction was sexual as well, and I'm not sure it is important for us to know.
The revelation completes the picture for us of a man who felt betrayed, injured by one he loved, ashamed at how far he went from rational thought and behavior, how far he really was from what he thought he was.
The up shot is that we now know more completely Dumbledore's motivations for fighting Dark Wizards--his shame at his own tangential contribution to Grindelwald's career, his reluctance to fight him, and, when Voldemort rose, his determination to not to repeat his prior mistake of inaction and to fight Voldemort from the start.
So in summery, It was part of the way JKR viewed Dumbledore and understood him. I don't think it was something that would have come out voluntarily--more likely something that would have made a scholarly article 50 or 60 years from now after she was gone and literary scholar had access to her full notes (assuming she left them to be investigated).
BTW, there is some inkling of this in DH, where Rita Skeeter talks about devoting a chapter in her book about Dumbledore to the Dumbledore/Harry relationship. This is not to say that there was anything improper--but that JKR did put out a hint.

in accordance to the story I study, she had advised the author of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore grew to become into gay by way of fact there grew to become into point out of a woman love interest interior the screenplay and he or she had to set them precise. Having performed that, she made it public, by way of fact it could have at last come out besides--she ought to administration while and how it grew to become into performed. This tale got here out by way of fact she grew to become into directly requested if Dumbledore enjoyed anybody. BTW, there is a few inkling of this in DH, the place Rita Skeeter talks approximately devoting a financial disaster in her e book approximately Dumbledore to the Dumbledore/Harry courting. it relatively is to no longer say that there grew to become into something unsuitable--yet that JKR did positioned out a splash. wl

Yes, it's very true. It's her way of trying to aggravate Christians even further. But in the end, the Christians will have the last laugh, trust that.

I am just suprised that it had to be announced that dumbledore was gay...who couldn't have figured that one out. Perhaps one of these days someone will come up with a series of books or cartoons where there are not issues such as non-traditional relationships, sex, drugs, and alcohol. Then and only then will such books and cartoons be fit to sell, advertise, and watch.

No.....I think she just said that it would give them another reason to scrutinize the series. She meant to have Dumbledore gay right from the start.

Well if she did that no I could not stand her either. The fact is, it really does not effect the book or the characters really, or at lest not that I know of. So I wouldn't care if she said Harry was gay. (which would be a little more believable than dumbeldore) =)
