My precious baby boy will be 5 months old this Thursday, and I am almost positive he has started teething. He has been cranky lately, refuses his cereal at times, biting EVERYTHING. When did your baby get his first tooth, and how long did the symptoms last before the tooth broke through? What were his symptoms? and what worked best as far as relief for your baby? THANKS!

My eldest got his first tooth just a few days before turning 9 months. My baby didn't have her first pop through until 10 months (now has 2 at 11 months old). 50% of babies will have at least 1 tooth by 6 months old.

The biggest sign for us is drooling. Of course drooling is also just part of being a baby, but it always got worse when a tooth was on its way. We didn't use any teeth tablets or orajel. The thing that both kids loved most was having their gums massaged with a finger. They also liked the chewing toys with nubbins on them. Also good is a washcloth, you wet one corner then stick it in the freezer, the baby can hold onto the dry end and chew on the frozen corner for comfort.

My youngest is going to be 11 months on Nov. 2. He still has no teeth and no sign of them.
